It took two calls a couple months in advance to secure our reservations at Brigsten’s- the first call they told me to call back because they were “too busy”. A nice problem to have for a restaurant. But we had had a great meal there in past so I ignored this gaffe and called the next day. The night of our reservation, which I had put in outlook the very same day I reserved it, we spent the $20 plus Uber fare to get to the restaurant only to be told they had us down for the next night. They summarily dismissed us without making any serious effort to accommodate us-they did offer to try to get us into some other restaurant nearby but they could not even tell us what type of food it was. This was beyond the worst customer service we have ever had. Any restaurant unwilling to use OpenTable or some other reservation service should be sure to get it right-and if they do not they should figure out how to make it better. We will never, ever consider this restaurant again nor will re recommend it to others.

We go to New Orleans a couple of times a year and always try to pick at least one place to eat. I picked Brigtsen's this year for my birthday dinner and it was a great choice. The restaurant has been in the same location for 32 years, in a little narrow house at the end of St. Charles near the river. The minute you walk in you feel like you are just visiting in someone's home for dinner. Marna was off that night, but her sister was doing hostess duty and was very welcoming, as was Frank, the owner/chef. All of the wait staff were the same, and the food was wonderful. I had the pork chop which was huge. Dessert was pecan pie, their specialty, and double chocolate cake that was so big I had to take half with me. There are only 17 tables, and they don't rush you - so very nice!

This being our first time in NOLA, we were unfamiliar with how far away this restaurant would be from our hotel just one block outside of the French Quarter. After a $25 cab ride, we arrived at the quaint house this restaurant is in. The owner greeted us warmly and remembered it was our anniversary. Heart shaped confetti was spread around the candle on our table. The same family has run this establishment for 32 years and apparently treat their staff like family also, as they seem so happy. We were thrilled to see sweet breads on the menu as it is a favorite of ours and these were amazing! My husband had the seafood platter which was unlike any he has had before; a definite must for oyster lovers. It is most definitely worth the trip to eat at this gem! BTW, we were able to take the green line trolly back to our hotel for a nominal fee.

The restaurant is in an old house that is not well heated. We visited in January and were initially seated in a hallway which was adversely affected every time the door opened letting in the frigid weather outside. Our table was moved when requested and we did enjoy a delicious meal in spite of the odd way of serving. I feel that the service was odd because, although there was only two of us dining, our appetizers and entrees were not served together. We were told this was because the kitchen wanted to get the entrees out as soon they were done. However, it didn't make sense that soup would be served several minutes after the hot entree came out rather than at or close to the same time, or that two similar entrees would not arrive together so that one person had to start eating before the other was served. The food was excellent, but the odd way it was served did not make for a truly wonderful dining experience.
