“Great place to stay in NOLA!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

We spent 3 nights at the Jean Lafitte House Oct. 11-14, 2013, while attending a wedding at the Kingsway House just across the street. We would definitely stay there again. The location was as good as it gets - we walked to the French Quarter several times a day & night. There are neighborhood grocery stores close by for essentials (Diet Coke). Other than no elevator (we stayed on 2nd floor and it was not a problem), we had everything we needed. Loved hearing the horses' hooves (carriage rides) clip-clopping down Esplanade. We sat on the balcony every night until after midnight. Our only suggestion to management was that they could use better quality chairs & tables on the balconies. Air-conditioning worked great. Third floor would probably be the quietest. Again, we were on 2nd floor and it was fine. Swimming pool is very small and we didn't use it - but then again, we didn't go to New Orleans to go swimming. You get the feeling of being part of a NOLA neighborhood instead of just staying in a hotel. For the money and location, this will be our new "go to" place whenever we travel to New Orleans.

Room Tip: 3rd floor would probably be the quietest, but the trade off is walking up two flights of stairs. We...

The Jean LaFitte House is very characteristic of the New Orleans French Quarter. The buildings have a lot of history, yet the room we had was updated and cleaner than any place else I have ever stayed. They are doing some room renovation, but we were not disturbed by it at all. We had a first floor one bedroom unit which did not have much of a kitchenette, but who wants to stay in your room to eat when you're in New Orleans, anyway. The staff was super friendly and couldn't have been more helpful! Also, it was very secure. We definitely would reccomend it to our friends!

Room Tip: There are only two first floor rooms, so if you have a problem with stairs, you will need to request...

A perfect location to be close to Frenchmen Street which is way better than Bourbon Street if you want to experience real New Orleans music, culture and food. Not too far from the rest of the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter though if you're into the typical Nawlins experience. Room was kind of awkward, kitchen and living room downstairs with the need to walk up a very constricted spiral staircase to use the bathroom (not such a good idea if you're drinking). Everything was carpeted and kind of dated, but it served its purpose...we were there to experience NOLA so it was all good. The room was clean and had a tiny kitchen which was perfect for storing extra adult beverages and late night munchies after a night out on the town. The courtyard was gorgeous and the staff was helpful. Indecisive as to whether I would stay here again when there are so many other options.

We rented a 1 bedroom condo through RCI and loved the location. This property is located on Esplande Ave which is not across the street from the Jean Lafitte Bar or on a busy corner. I am not sure about the other review that I read that says it was. They must have this one mixed up with a different place. It is a very old complex but the rooms were nicely updated and comfortable. It is a very small complex with only a handful of units but we felt safe with the locked courtyard. Easy to walk to everything. The staff was very nice and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They were doing some construction while we were there but that didn't bother us. We come to New Orleans every year and will stay here again.
