What a pleasant surprise to find this attractive outdoor sculpture garden specializing in 20th century sculptors... and for free! The audio highlights tour (via your own cell phone) is just the right amount of information to make this a great experience.

This is free and open to the public and worth going to. Lots of sculptures and places to sit and admire the art work. We even saw the swan and her nest of eggs. If you're looking for a place to get away from the French Quarter, this is a nice retreat.

Thank Mitt

This is on our short list of the places we take visiting friends. The sculpture garden is filled with many pieces of varying size representing a variety of time periods, artistic styles and international artists and their cultures. Every visitor we have taken to the sculpture garden has thanked us for including it and has remarked on how unique an experience it had been. As locals, we enjoy visiting relatively often and are delighted to see new pieces added to the collection pretty regularly. Aside from the art, the grounds are lovely and lush with pathways meandering through lagoons and various landscapes and water features. Benches are everywhere encouraging you to simply linger or enjoy some quiet contemplation of the art. It is a sizable area but is fashioned in such a way that even those who tire easily or are hampered in mobility will get along quite well and can contract the length of their visit as needed. The sculpture garden is located next to the New Orleans Museum of Art just inside the main entrance to City Park. While in the park, you may also like to visit the Botanical Gardens or stroll around the lagoon just on the other side of the museum. Young children will enjoy Storyland. That is a fairy tale themed climbing garden connected to the Botanical Garden. On weekends, the Carousel Gardens is a really neat little amusement park filled with both regular and scaled down versions of thrill rides. To get to the park, simply take Esplanade Avenue all the way out til it becomes the main entrance to the park. Esplanade is the downriver border of the French Quarter. Another simple but longer route is to take St. Charles all the way Uptown where it curves into Carrollton Avenue. Take Carrollton lakebound til it ends at the corner of City Park. Take the curve to the right and then enter the park at the first turn on your left. This second route will take you past the elegant homes of St. Charles and through both the picturesque Garden District and university area of Uptown. It is definitely worth the trip.
