“great experience and last minute find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

We had booked a DIVE online and needed a room ASAP, not only was a room available during a busy convention week(KBIS), it was just perfect, the price was right, the serve and location were too. Oh and it was right on the trolley line!

This is a nice hotel, great location for Mardi Gras. The trolley picks up immediately across the street from the hotel.
New hotel. The staff was very accomodating and amiable. They allow pets, which as a dog lover, is hard to find.

We stayed in a king suite. Very large room, nice bed, good views, modern decor. I wish they provided water (even at the usual overpriced $4, its still nice to have available). Also for a suite, I wish they had a small fridge. The only downside, is that the cleaning lady did not replace towels, we had to call down for them. Also not the best cleaning service (although Jazz fest was quite muddy this year), but you could tell the shower was neglected. On the other hand, if I had been at home, everything would have been rinsed outside :)

Around the hotel: Great places to eat. There is a local craft beer restaurant and bar that stays open 24 hours (The Avenue Pub) just down the street, although with cute breakfast places (Surrey, Trolley Stop) and nearby convenience stores.
Definately away from the loud downtown.

The beautiful historic neighborhood, amiable service, and dog-friendly attitude of our hotel do make it a special place to stay, as you mentioned in the review. Thank you for your suggestions and experiences with the towels, shower, and on-site water have been noted and shared with the appropriate departments. We really appreciate that you took the time to review your stay and we hope to see you again in the future.

We stayed here during the second weekend of Jazzfest more or less by default, but it was a real oasis, and sort of the polar opposite of the hotel we left, the Provincial in the Quarter. The Provincial is much more my style - initially this seemed like THE most stylish hotel in, say, Qatar..
It was great to have so much space and to be so comfortable. The shower is killer, with its river
pebble floor and haint blue ceiling - you could invite quite a few friends in to share it. No wastebasket in the sink room, and this is only nice hotel I've ever stayed in that has no magnifying makeup mirror. I ended up using the floor length mirror in the bedroom.

Equally puzzling, no hotel tv I've ever experienced did NOT have PBS or MSNBC, though
mercifully there was HBO.

However, virtually everyone on the staff is just terrific, really personable and real and extremely helpful. Breakfast is delish, carefully prepared to order - though I would skip the bacon and egg on pillowy croissant. Excellent PJ's coffee. It wasn't until the last night that I ventured down to the bar and met
one of the great bartenders, Erica. She makes a Sazerac with cognac - the original historic
drink, she says, that was replaced with rye later - that is just astonishing. When you watch her
make it, it's like poetry or some sort of ancient ritual. Every single element counts, and it's all perfectly done. Erica's extremely knowledgeable and has lots of fascinating cocktail info -
Rachel Maddow would go nuts at that bar, but of course she's on MSNBC...

It's great to be in the Garden District, especially with a car. Do NOT go innocently walking down St. Charles towards Lee Circle after dark - in just two blocks, the neighborhood is very rough. And don't take Jackson in the opposite direction from the Garden District - it's a
wasteland.

But do walk to Commander's Palace for weekend brunch, try out Le Bon Temps Roule, a real
dive bar with great music where Lee Harvey Oswald liked to sit near the bar. Go up to Carrolton to the Camellia Grill for great diner food and a quintessential New Orleans experience.

All in all, I ended up really liking it - and I wish someone had told me about the fish.

I recently spent 6 nights at the Hotel Indigo on St. Charles. The location of this hotel was perfect. It was close enough to be able to walk to all the nearby districts (Garden, Warehouse, Business, French Quarter). If you aren't up for much walking the trolly car is conveniently located right out front of the hotel.

The service we received at the hotel was average.

The rooms were lovely and well appointed. This hotel is still quite new so everything was in really good shape and the decor trendy. I really liked that there is not wall to wall carpets like most hotels as this is much more clean and better for allergies. The beds were very comfortable. The drapes blocked out all light. The bathroom was huge. It actually felt like we were in a small apartment, which is nice.

My only complaint is that we were situated beside the storage room and in the mornings when the maids started we could hear the door bang every single time they went out. It was very irritating to say the least and although I nicely brought it up to the front desk the noise did not stop. I recommend you ask for a room that is not near the storage room when checking in. The wifi in the rooms worked well for the most part.

There are two complimentary computers and a printer in the lobby if you need to print out documents, etc.

The food choice was not great but there are so many fantastic restaurants nearby that it doesn't matter.

If you are looking for an area more low key than the French Quarter, this is a perfect choice. I would stay here again if I came to New Orleans but would ask to be far from the storage room (there is one on each floor).

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the storage room on each floor.

Room 603, arriving Saturday 20th April 2013 - on arrival, the size of the room, bathroom and bed (collectively, all massive) was soured by the fact that the bed had been made up with dirty covers. I'm not talking a smudge on the edge, but a whacking in-your-face series of marks on the main body, completely obvious on cursory glance. This suggests slipshod servicing which is not a good way to start.

Fortunately - it got better. Front desk sorted the cover without quibble and, indeed, front desk and the staff throughout were happy, helpful and everything you would hope for but rarely find at a hotel. It was my birthday on the Sunday 21st and the staff arranged for some balloons and 2 free drink vouchers to be put into the room, all without actually asking me to prove it was my birthday which was very trusting of them (and - if they are reading this - it was indeed my birthday on 21st April so thanks for making the effort).

The room and bathroom is massive, although our bathroom was shower only. This was a little odd given that the space could easily accommodate bath and separate shower - I don't really mind, but I do know that some people do prefer that choice. There was a persistent fault throughout our stay with the water which was on/off night and day several times, if only for half an hour or so each time (and 4 hours overnight). In addition, the hot supply was very hot and the cold supply was hot too - not warm or tepid but actually running hot, no matter how long you left it. Somewhere, during the conversion process, some dozy plumber has clearly crossed the hot and cold feeds and they are still trying to sort this out - one of the kinks mentioned in the title.

Another kink involves the coffee machine. It is plugged in next to the TV and needs its little in-built reservoir to be filled in order to work which it then passes over a single-use coffee bag. However, there is no way to fill it without making a huge mess - the reservoir mouth is tiny and if you use a coffee mug to transport the water from the bathroom then most of it will splash happily down the side of the machine as you try and pour it in. You cannot unplug the coffee machine to take it to the tap and so a jug is urgently required to overcome this!

A third kink again involves the coffee machine. This is also provided with teabags and the idea is that you run the water through the coffee machine to heat it up and then dunk a tea bag in it. This does not work - coffee needs hot water (which this machine provides) and tea needs BOILING WATER, which this machine does not provide. Sorry to shout but this is not an option for making tea, its a requirement for making tea. If you are going to provide tea, you HAVE to provide a kettle. Oh, and milk, coffee mate doesn't work in tea at all. Oh, and finally, Earl Grey is perfumed poison - its what people who don't drink tea buy because they know no better.

The hotel is in a great location next to the streetcar, 10 minutes out of the main centre in the garden district. Hotels in the main part of town can be small and, depending on location, noisy as well (especially Bourbon Street). People who book the Royal Sonnesta will be in for a real shock! The streetcar offers a day pass for $3 a day and, although it is a hard ride, is clean and frequent throughout the day and night. The garden district generally is quieter, greener and just airier overall. The Blue Plate Cafe - a must for breakfast (far far better and cheaper than the Indigo equivalent) - is 15 minutes walk away and one of the graveyards for which New Orleans is so famous is 10 minutes away, in the other direction from the Cafe.

Positives - a good quiet location, easy access to transport (including hotel pickup for any tours), all still shiny new in the rooms, free internet access (and in-room wi-fi).
Negatives - kinks to work out. They'll fix the water eventually, hopefully the tea facilities too!

Room Tip: All rooms are newly fitted

The big easy can be a bit sleazy but now when you spend it in this hotel! Big spacious room with an equally big bath area, a nice quiet oasis in a noisy town. The Garden District is a bit removed from some great dining locations but don't let that stop you. The concierge made excellent dining recommendations that were a nod to the local fare but not where the tourists would be. Just nice all the way around.

Room Tip: My room was on the fifth floor and the A/C unit was noisy.

What a great hotel! We absolutely loved our stay at the Indigo in the amazing Garden District. Don't stay in the French Quarter it is sooo... noisy! The garden district is just so beautiful and so easy to get to absolutely anything that you want.
The trolley which is only $3 per day stops right outside the hotel and will take you anywhere you need to go and want to see.
There is a little market right beside the hotel to purchase snacks, pop, etc even though it is available in the hotel. The snack and go at the hotel is really great with fresh fruit, cookies, sandwiches and all.
The best thing about this hotel is truly the staff!!!!! We cannot say enough marvelous things about the staff. It was like coming home every day after touring, shopping, etc.
The front desk staff Jeremy and Nicolette are the best. So friendly, helpful and welcoming. Jeremy helped me package up a purchase of mine to carry on my plane ride home.
The offered tips on where to eat, what to see and how to get around. They called us cabs when needed and were so happy to see us return each night.
The restaurant and bar staff were the best. Chris was so great in the morning at breakfast, remembering what we ordered and how we liked things. Erika was over the top helpful. No need for a concierge at Hotel Indigo...they have Erika! She booked us restaurant reservations and told us where to eat and not to eat. She even went above and beyond and had balloons put in our room for my husband's birthday.
The fitness room was really awesome with up to date new equipment.
We would recommend to anyone to stay in this hotel.
It does not have a pool so if you are looking for that for children that would be a minus point for you. They did have fish in portable bowls that guests can take to their room during their stay to make your room feel more like home. That was really great and fun!

What a wonderful review! Thank you so much. This was the first review to mention our newest additions to the Indigo family- Rex and Zulu, our fish! We're especially glad about the kind words that you had to say about our friendly staff. We'll be sure to let Erika, Chris, Jeremy and Nicolette know that they were given a special shout-out on Trip Advisor. Again, thank you!
