Owner description: 'New Orleans Music Tours' says it all. We give tours of New Orleans Music. Walking tours through music history in the French Quarter and Louis Armstrong National Jazz Park. Evening tours of jazz and historic New Orleans cocktails. Nightclub tours of traditional jazz and blends of traditional with Gypsy, Parisian and street-folk-jazz. Our music tours and music experiences all share the 300 year history that make New Orleans the most influential city in popular music. "Music Gumbo" is our most famous tour. For teens and adults. It is a day-time two hour walking tour through the French Quarter and Armstrong Park. This is great for student groups also. On Music Gumbo you'll stand in historic locations and hear behind the scenes stories of the development of jazz and rock and roll. The stories come to life with snippets of the original recordings played for you on our handheld digital player pods. The 'Jazz On The Rocks' tour is for over 21 adults focuses on the story of the developing years of jazz. During those early days of jazz New Orleanians also created some jazzed up cocktails that are often as fun watch being made as they are to drink. Ramos Gin Fizz shaken 40 times. The Sazerac's perfume of absinthe or herbsaint with sugar, rye whisky and a special twist. The Sazerac is the official cocktail of the city of New Orleans. The Louisiana State legislature voted it so. "Night On The Town" is also a over 21 tour experience that is limited to smaller groups so we can move in and out of the clubs and streets with ease. It an early evening visit to the Frenchmen Street district one block outside of the Quarter. It's less of a tour than it is a live music experience in the city's hot spot of interesting music clubs, bars and hangouts. Its a great introduction to local live entertainment that only a professional tour guide local could show you. New Orleans Music Tours loves to share the history of what makes this city them most influential city in popular music. We thing you'll agree with us. All of our guides are hand picked and City Of New Orleans licensed.

“A true Music Tour”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

I very much enjoyed Will as our tour guide through the French Quarter. Not only was he extremely personable, but very knowledgeable about the music that has made New Orleans such a wonderful place to visit. It was my first time in NOLA, so I really wanted the full experience that this city had to offer. This music tour wasn't just bar-hopping and listening to random bands play, but we learned the history of where the music started and big names that made it happen. He didn't miss out on letting us enjoy the music, either, as music played on his ipod while we walked and talked. Even if you don't have a very long attention span (like myself), this is one tour that will keep your focus, and leave you feeling like you really learned something worthwhile.

“Where American Music Started”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

A fascinating and informative tour. Of course it also helped that our tour guide, Will, is knowledgeable, passionate, and fun. The subject matter expounds beyond the confines of music into the history of us all. I consider myself literate in music and music history, and I still learned so much from this tour. On top of that, the experience creates a real connection between yourself and the musicians of the past. At one point in the tour, we literally stood in the space where American music began as we learned about its origins. Inspiring really. Highly recommended.

“Fantastic New Orleans Tour”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

This was great tour that explores the soul of New Orleans, the music. On the tour we visited numerous locations and learned what makes it important to the history of music in the city. An added bonus was that as we went we were able to listen to selections of the music being discussed. In Congo Square you learn about how the music played there centuries ago was an influence on music not only in New Orleans but on music as we know it today. We had a great guide who was both knowledgeable and passionate. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning about music history and its influence on the culture of New Orleans.

Thanks for taking the tour and recognizing both the guides knowledge and passion. As a tour company, we are very proud of maintaining and expanding that knowledge base for all of our guides. As for the passion, ... well, it's hard not to be passionate about this city's musical legacy.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Went on the Musical Gumbo tour and loved it. It's a 2-hour long tour and our guide, Milton Carr was very knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. Dave accompanied Milton on this tour. There were just the four of us and our guides so it was like a private tour.

We walked through the French Quarter, pausing to hear about legends and see landmarks. Milton carried a pocket speaker and an IPod where he played music relevant to the musician he was talking about.

There's a restroom break at the Basin Street Station and the tour ended in Congo Park where we learned about the little known history of the relationship between Blacks and Indians.

This tour gave me a greater understanding of how jazz began and evolved, the people and the forces that shaped it. I now have names of legendary musicians I want to learn more about and listen to. It is amply clear that Milton doesn't see this as a job - he loves doing this.

“Great New Orleans Music Tour”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

I really enjoyed this walking music tour. Our group lucked out with getting Will as our tour guide. I really enjoyed his commentary paired with the music and his obvious passion for the knowledge he was sharing with us. We saw many places that influenced the local sound that were off of the beaten path along with a few bits of "lagniappe" along the way. It was a truly incredible educational experience that I'd recommend to others interested in music history and having a different appreciation for the sounds you hear in the area.

Thanks for sharing your excitement about the tour and for the lagniappe you shared with TripAdvisor readers by commenting on the lagniappe I shared with you. And for using the word properly in a sentence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagniappe,

Now pronounce Tchoupitoulas as in Tchoupitoulas Street. Sometimes its easier to say "...its that uptown street that run along side the river".

Its your excitement that makes entertaining you with history so energizing for us.
