“Enjoyed the serenity”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Visited the park on two occasions, both times in the morning, the park has an interesting mix of sculptures, statues, fountains and lakes, a relaxing retreat from the hustle & bustle of the French quarter also lots of cute squirrels dashing about.

“Simple and Quiet Park”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

The park is a very nice place to sneek off to and get some quiet down time from the French Quarter. Nothing particularly special about the park, pretty average.

“Armstrong Tribute Awesome”
Reviewed July 2, 2013 via mobile

This park is a great tribute but I would advise going during the day because there are some characters roaming the streets.

“The Park- Congo Square- Mahalia Jackson Theatre for the Performing Arts!”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

What a great main entry to a fantastic park so beautifully laid out with hilly grassy undulations, fountains, waterways, bridges , stage, wonderful lighting & colour trees & gardens & spacious. Statues to Louis "Sachmo" Armstrong with plaque & Charles "Buddy" Bolden.
Congo Square has an information plaque, slaves sculpture also with information plaque so the whole history of this particular area is well documented.
The actual Square coming out from a central section is laid out in fish scale like tiling. Most interesting to view & walk across. This Square really impressed me.

I visited on a Thursday for Jazz in the Park put on by People United for Armstrong Park. There were the expected stalls for food & drinks, art works, hats, clothing & other items.

The first band was Hot 8 which was great with lots of brass & rhythm, animation & colour. They were very energetic & interacted well with each other. They made my evening!
Crowds danced in front of the stage while others sat well spread out or buying food & drinks. many families with young children were here.
The next band was Donald Harrison & the Congo Square Nation whose music was less to my liking.

This Park is well worth a visit every trip to New Orleans & is so accessible either by Streetcar or walking straight up Ann St, French Quarter.
