“Marry Poppins Wonder House - amazing”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

We stayed for three nights and could have stayed much longer...the extraordinary design, Nancys bright and cheerful way, the pretty and cosy garden...and not to forget: the amazing breakfast!!

Sweet Olive Inn is within walking distance of Frenchmen street, no problem to walk home at night neither. The area is really nice to just wander around and to gaze at the pretty houses all over. And there are various nice dining options too (Nancy will hand-over her recommendations, which were really helpful to us).

I hesitated writing a review of Auld Sweet Olive for a selfish reason: I'm afraid this small B and B will become so popular that it's rooms will all be booked months in advance. It would be wrong, though, not to acknowledge such excellence in hospitality. Auld Sweet Olive is a giant step above the average B and B. The house is genuinely charming. The walls of each room are painted by a set designer in different tropical vegetation themes (the name, BTW, isn't a cute version of "old" but a reference to Stephen Auld, another set designer who once lived there). The proprietor could not be more accommodating (armed with menus from what looked like every restaurant in NOLA, for instance, she spent 15 minutes helping make the perfect choice), but at the same time not to the slightest degree intrusive. Winner of local cooking awards, she bakes a different dish for breakfast every morning, all perfectly delightful.
Perhaps we were just lucky, but the other guests were unusually interesting. Conversations over breakfast weren't just pleasant but actually stimulating.
The only downside of Sweet Olive is that it is nine or so blocks from the French Quarter. That's a pleasant walk through the Marigny, a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. It seems perfectly safe, except perhaps late at night, but it does mean that you have to be a bit more planful about your activities. On the other hand, once back at Sweet Olive, you can enjoy a night without noise pollution.

My partner, elementary-aged daughter, and I had a wonderful time visiting New Orleans, and Auld Sweet Olive was perfect for us. The house is lovely, the breakfast delicious and filling, and everyone there was friendly and helpful. When we return to New Orleans we'll be staying at Auld Sweet Olive.

My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Nancy. She took the time to set us on our way to see the sights and sounds of New Orleans. Breakfast was very good and the room was comfortable! The location is a nice walk to Frenchman St., the French Quarter and some fun local spots.

Absolutely loved this place. This was my 1st time staying at a B&B, and it was great! From the moment we arrived we felt very welcomed. We didn't get in till 1 am, so Nancy (innkeeper who is one of the sweetest people I have ever met) put a welcome note and our keys in the mailbox for us. Our rooms were always kept with fresh towels, the bed being made, and things just put in a neat order. Breakfast was delicious and because of the locked gate, always felt like everything was safe. I will DEFINiTELY be staying here again!!

From the minute we arrived we felt welcomed and comfortable. Nancy had wonderful suggestions on where to eat and what to do. The breakfasts were TOO good. Our room had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. It was my birthday and Nancy baked me a cake which was amazingly thoughtful. We normally stay at larger hotels, but Auld Sweet Olive Inn is where we'll be staying in New Orleans.

I just arrived back from a three night stay in New Orleans at the Sweet Olive B &B. My friend and I enjoyed our stay very much! We followed up on all of Nancy's recommendations for dinner and shopping and truly had a unique New Orleans experience. She is a wonderful hostess, very accommodating, and when asked for recommendations, did not steer us towards all of the typical tourist-y attractions. The whole home is comfortable, clean, and decorated tastefully. The fresh fruit and home baked breakfast options had us going back for seconds! We definitely will be staying at the Sweet Olive anytime we are back in New Orleans! Highly recommended to all!
