This is the best for sitting back, listening to some great local jazz and sipping a Maker's Mark on the rocks.

Went with my wife last night and we had a wonderful time! We got there around 7pm band was on break, was a lil empty but that didn't last for long. Once the band got back from break, the great music started and the place got packed quick! Its not a big place but to me that was the charm, and the crowd was mixed friendly, dancing, having a great time!! The drinks were very reasonable 9 bucks for a strong long island is a deal to me..If your visiting NOLA stop here you won't be disappointed, and tip the band

... because there's no cover, and you will find some of the finest jazz in the city at the Spotted Cat.

My husband and I travel quite a bit--for work mostly, since he's a musician who tours himself--but we go to New Orleans to relax, and the 'Cat is always a favorite stop. I noticed that some people on here trash the club because of people talking on their phones, etc: come on, guys, if you think an inconsiderate audience ISN'T the norm in American cities, you don't go out to shows much.

That said, you shouldn't go here to talk; you should go here to listen. They have several bands/artists in residency, so the more you come, the more you get to know some local favorites. We make a beeline when Dominic Grillo and the Frenchman Street Allstars are playing; they play the standards everyone knows as an excuse to play some incredible jams. Go see them if you like jazz!

And if you don't like music, please do the rest of us a favor and go somewhere else.

As first-time visitors to New Orleans, my friend and I were immediately drawn to the fiery vibe, passion and spectacular sounds of the Spotted Cat. Kristina Morales' voice was a cross between Edith Piaf and Billie Holliday. We loved her, the band and just about every aspect of the Spotted Cat, including the drinks and the friendly crowd. The antithesis of Bourbon St, and that is a good thing. Only criticism: the annoying and intrusive cigarette smoke from a couple of patrons who lacked the consideration to step outside.
