Elysian Fields Inn is the best place. The Elysian Fields is located close to the French Quarter that you can walk everywhere and dont have to worry about parking. It is luxusy at it's finest, that you feel like a millionaire. Sal and Greg are the best and make u feel like your at home. This is the place to be when in New Orleans. If you want to feel like royalty.

We felt very much at home at Elysian Fields Inn during our recent visit to New Orleans. You'll not find a more accomodating staff anywhere than Gregg & Sal.
This B&B was recommended by good friends that had stayed there. We were very pleased with the location. Just a short walk away from all the noise yet close enough that we were able to walk everywhere. And, we felt perfectly safe in doing so.
Not sure what "Disappointed" was talking about in the previous review. We stayed in the same room, the front room by the street. We never noticed any traffic noise, horns or trains.

We thought Sal & Greg were great hosts and their idea of calling down for your breakfast was very unique. But we have stayed in a large number of B&Bs and found this one to be very stark with almost a hotel feel to it. But our most disappointing problem was the NOISE! We were located in the front of the house which sits on a 4 lane highway. Not only did you get the traffic noise, there was a train nearby and we could even hear the riverboat horn! I am surprised none of the reviews mentioned how noisy this B&B was. We should have known when our room came equipped with ear plugs. We also did not like the breakfast room set up. They set up individual tables and rather than encourage the guests to interact in B&B fashion they kept groups apart. Even to the point when my husband and I sat down at a table set for 4 they removed the other place settings. If we were afraid to sit with another couple we could have chosen a two seat table. I would not make an effort to return to this B&B when we return to New Orleans

Management response:Responded December 3, 2004

After hosting thousands of guests and receiving a multitude of positive reviews, we'd like to respond to the most recent post. We think it only fair that it be made known that the guests who posted this review stayed during Halloween weekend. This is a major party event in New Orleans, with parades and a Harley Davidson motorcycle rally, hence the increased noise. We are most definitely an urban inn with a modern (not stark) decor, as opposed to the frilly nature of many B&B's. There are multiple photos of each room on our website which allows guests to see and choose the room they desire. We think of ourselves more as a small hotel, rather than a traditional bed-and-breakfast. We offer individual tables for breakfast, as an alternative to the often uncomfortable communal dining table. Lastly, there is not a highway in front of our inn, but we are located just five blocks from the Mississippi Riverwalk. Most of our guests find the sounds of the streetcar and the steamboats to be quite charming. Eye masks and ear plugs are just two of the many amenities (clearly listed on our website and brochure) which are offered in ALL guestrooms. These amenities, along with our location and service, has led to ours being the ONLY bed-and-breakfast in New Orleans awarded with the prestigious "Four Diamond" award from AAA. We appreciate the fact that we cannot always please everyone's individual tastes. However, we have gone to great lengths to represent our Inn accurately on our website and in our brochures.

We spent three days in New Orleans this past week and, based on the recommendation of a relative, decided to stay here. We haven't used B&Bs in the past because we thought they might be less fulfilling than a full service hotel. But in places such as New Orleans, there is little chance that you are really going to use the gym or even room service. And we really wanted something outside the norm and somewhat price conscious.
While there are several well-known inns in the Quarter, their prices and lower levels of service were not attractive to us.
We had some concern about the area outside the quarter which, in past years, were precarious.

What a joy to find the Elysian Fields Inn. The owners, Sal & Gregg, have done exceedingly well with the site. It feels so homey compared to a chain hotel and the guys go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. In fact, it almost felt like visiting friends, who would be available to help with anything from a flat tire to a serious illness with just a phone call.

The rooms are comfortable and well appointed without being pretenious or staid. The porches begged one to linger over coffee and a cigar. And the neighborhood is surpisingly quiet and reserved, but with a newly developing hipness found in restaurants and jazz clubs right around the corner.

We were completely comfortable with walking to and from the French Quarter at any time of the day or night.

There are wonderful breakfast selections available every morning in an intimate and warm dining area.

We look forward to visiting a number of times in the coming year and this is our base of operations.

This is definitely an above average B&B. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the hospitality very much. The rooms are not very charming but are very clean and well thought-out. Some antiques or "character" items would be a big help! Overall a solid A for Elysian. We would stay here again.
