“Retreat from the business of the city .”
Reviewed October 14, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at the Queen Ann from October 3-6.In spite of the refurbishment to the front balcony we found the old mansion to be a quiet retreat from the business of the French Quartet. The bus stop is a block away and is a 10 minute bus ride to Canal ST. Restaurants are within walking distance -our favorite was Zias-tasty rotisserie dishes and the best brownie dessert.Christine from the front desk kindly booked us some tours which we thoroughly enjoyed. The room was clean , comfortable and secure. We would definitely stay here again.

The Queen Anne Hotel was elegant and reasonable and at a great location. We really enjoyed our stay, however, without elevators and all the stairs this would not be good for someone handicapped. The staff was personable, friendly, accommodating and made wonder suggestions. Christine recommended a restaurant and swamp tour for me and my granddaughter that was top of the line. I recommend these proprieties. The Prytania Park was less expensive and elegant but the price was inexpensive. We stayed again at this properties on our way back to New Orleans from our the Plantation stay.

Room Tip: rated good because of handicapped issue.

We stayed on the 3rd floor of the hotel. Our room had 2 twin beds a large bathroom, sitting area with couch and a mini type kitchen. We loved it!!!! But no elevators all stairs. The staff (Christine) was incredibly friendly and the reason we stayed. She was the one I talked to when I called to make reservations. It is a little out of the French Quarter (which I prefer) but rails are 1 block up and easy to get to. I also like that the property is gated and only opens with your room key card. At first the area gave me some concern but changed after the first night. Two of the best restaurants are only 1 block up (Vodoo BBQ and Zea Rotissererie).

The hotel is unassuming at first sight. It lies on Prytania Street, a neighbourhood which looks a bit 'dated' and uninteresting. We were a bit disheartened at first. But that soon changed, the moment we checked in (at the reception of the nearby 'mother hotel', the Prytania Park Hotel). The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful to begin with, and our littel hotel turned out te be a lovingly restaured period house. The room was not huge, but brimming with old time charm, including a high bed, complete with wooden step. Large bathroom, with an excellent shower. We thought there was only a ceiling fan, we discovered the airconditioning only during the second day, it had floor vents.
The location turned out to be excellent, right in the Garden District, at a stone's throw from St Charles Avenue, close to a streetcar stop. It brings you in no time up and down St Charles, to the French Quarter or to the rest of the Garden District (like Lafayette Cemetery, or Audubon Park).
Restaurants galore in the neighbourhood, on St Charles. We had a good time, we even picknicked in the mini garden and on the porch.
Highly recommended, if you're not looking for the sterile comfort of the big hotel chains. and to be fair, the street is not that ancient or uninteresting, it is lined with old trees, which offer welcome shade. And did I mention there was free parking at the Prytania hotel?

Room Tip: the ground floor prevents you from lugging your stuff up the stairs (there is no elevator)

Great location, beautiful rooms. But the attentiveness of staff to solve issues (seriously appalling breakfast and too bright lamps on the balcony, for example) needs to be improved. Actually, needs to be developed from scratch. Too many too 'easy' apologies which were subsequently not followed up on.

We welcome all reviews and comments, but this one really has me confused and concerned. We acknowledged this guests was a soft sleeper and required pure darkness. We would have moved his room, however, all mansion was full house, as there are only 12 rooms. We explained he has Wooden blinds to close, and then to close the drapes over them that have a dark black out lining.

The "Lamps" on the balcony are 2 exterior security lights that are on a photo cell system to come on and go off with the raising and setting of the sunlight. Reason we have them is simple, the city street lights that provide our corner coverage, is unfortunately, shadowed by the over sized Live Oak tree. And it is illegal for us to cut and/or trim the tree that sits on our property according to the City of New Orleans ordinances. Only the City can cut a Live Oak tree back, and unless they deem it so, then the tree continues to branch out. This on has been standing on this corner for over 50 years, you can imagine its girth.

Due to the shaded light, we felt it necessary to provide proper lighting for various reasons. Security is first and foremost, but safety is another. Without it, it would be very challenging for our guests to see when getting in and out of a taxi, or trying to see the gate lock etc. He wanted us to disconnect the bulbs while he was in the house, but for obvious reasons, we can not do that. He was not happy with that. This is why he said he felt there was no follow up.

Now, as to Breakfast, not sure what he found appalling, as it is a very large wonderful spread considering its a Continental breakfast. Possibly, he does not understand or know what this term means. In fact, ours is Expanded to offer more than the industry standard for a Continental fare.

Our breakfast includes, Yogurt, Fresh Fruit and/or Fruit cups, Hot and Cold cereals (2 types both), Bagels w/Cream cheese, jams and butter, Pastries, Raisin Toast, sometimes Waffles, and always, hot steaming Cafe Au Lait, or Black, your preference, and 2 types of Juices.

Again, we welcome all reviews and the chance to explain our views. I am just sorry that he could not understand the reasoning behind the exterior lights.

We stayed in the Queen Anne Hotel in October 2011. What a beautiful place - the room was large, airy and beautifully decorated. Charming, but with modern amenities! We stayed on the second floor in a room facing the street. We wondered if we would be disturbed if the room next door became occupied, as it opened onto a small porch that was right next to a window to our room. We spoke to the receptionist at the desk and she told us that if there was any problem at all, they would move us to another room. As it turned out, no one used that room but it was nice to know that the issue would have been addressed if need be. This hotel is just two blocks from the trolley line and just around the corner is a wonderful restuarant ,The Irish House. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience something a bit more "up-market" than your typical hotel stay.

Room Tip: There was a bit of noise from the street in the early hours - garbage trucks and other traffic. If...

We wanted a B and B off the beaten path and wawy from the loud, dirty French Quarter so we tried this one. The site made it sound reputable since they own supposed hotels. We passed it 2 times on Prytannia. The hotel where you check in is in back of a house. We parked out car and had to walk down the street and around the corner to the Queen Mary. If you know anything about New Orleans, it's not that safe to walk anywhere. If I had not had a male companion, I would not have stayed. The house itself was pretty. We did have a spacious room..but..the toilet did not flush and flooded the bathroom. We didn't have a toilet the entire time, we reported it but nothing was done. It is very odd that they make you sign a waiver when you check in that says if you don't like the room there is NO REFUND!! I had never seen that before, NOW I KNOW WHY. The sheets were poor quality and were itchy. There was no blanket, only a bedspread, which I hesitate to use. The pillows were hard. The next day you could have continental breakfast across the street, but no one was there. It is a block from the trolley and St. Charles, which during parade time would be convenient. For the money I think you could find a more comforable and safe place. Also the people walked above us all night and car traffic is loud.

Room Tip: Ask for the large room on the first floor, although we heard the people above us all night.

First of all, I think this young lady has us confused with another hotel, as we do not have a “Queen Mary” hotel in our collection. There is however, a small Inn located at Prytania Street and St. Mary St., which is about 4 blocks from us. But if she is referring to us, I must refute her claims.

Check-in is not behind a house, but in the Main Lobby of the Prytania Park Hotel. There is an abandoned, boarded up house that sits adjacent to the Main Lobby, and maybe that is what she is referring to.

All web sites and confirmation letters from us directly, or every travel agency & marketing company we partner up with clearly state this, and give the address. It is around the corner, and for those who do not read the confirmation letters when they receive them, we have a sign on the Front Gate that clearly states it.

Secondly, we do not have any paperwork that states “ if you don't like the room there is NO REFUND!! “. A hotel in New Orleans could never stay in business with a waiver like that. I would like to see such paperwork, as it is hard for me to believe that exists. Our registration cards for all 3 of our hotels are identical and no where on it does it have this disclaimer.

Thirdly, we have 24/7 maintenance, and if a commode overflowed and was unable to be corrected, we would move the guest immediately to another room, and would offer some sort of compensation for their inconvenience. No such call came in or was logged into the Maintenance staff.

Our linens are of high quality but not the quality of a Ritz Carlton or a 5 star hotel, or even your own private home. Not only do all the beds have designer comforter sets, all rooms have down alternative comforters, and an extra fleece blanket for options to their own comfort level.

We offer Security from 6pm to 6am, 7 days a week that monitors all 3 of our hotels, corporate apartments, and 2 retail stores. But do note, this is an urban city area with mixed residential and commercial use. However, some guests who are not used to “big city” living and life are unnerved a bit, with the mixture of the neighborhood, but that is part of the charm of the Lower Garden District to which we reside in. Prytania Street is lined with Security lights from the local power company and all the individual housing security lights that each property has, it is fine to walk around our area at night. However, if a guest is not sure, all they have to do is call the Front Desk and we would be glad to have the Security staff, or any staff member walk over and assist them to the corner to catch the Streetcar.
