“Good Location”
Reviewed June 2, 2008

When we arrived everyone was too nice. I could not believe how friendly everyone was. We were there for four days. Every single day the staff had smiles on their faces. That was one of the reasons we made reservations there in the first place. We called the hotel directly for reservations and they were just as friendly on the phone. When we arrived I asked for a window facing the front or to the south. The other views did not seem worth having. The front desk clerk said she would take care of it. When we got to the room not only did she take care of my request she also gave us a two bedroom suite with a balcony. It was just me and wife and we only had reserved a one room suite. Very nice.
Tuesday evening the manager's reception had roast with potatoes. There was also fresh fruit. Sodas and beer were also available. The roast was very tender. They had a reception Wednesday and Thursday but we ate out so I could not tell you how it was, good I am sure.
The hot breakfast was different everyday. Wednesday's breakfast was bacon and eggs and waffles, Thursday's breakfast was sausage and eggs with cinnamon sticks/potatoes. Friday's breakfast was eggs with sausage and pancakes. Saturday's breakfast was eggs and bacon with hash browns. There was also fresh fruit and fresh pastries and cereal everyday in addition to the hot breakfast and orange and apple juice.
The room was big and clean. The A/C worked great. It was hot while we were there so that was important.
I was worried about the location and our safety because all I heard about post Katrina was the danger of the city. This area was VERY clean, well lit and I felt safe at all times. The parking for this hotel is a self serve parking that is not fenced or covered. There is an attendant during the day but I am not sure in the late evenings since we did not use the car at night. We were in New Orleans for a conference. We were a 15min walk away from the convention center. In the mornings it was pleasant to walk. It was a 9min walk to Harrah's. We went to Harrah's at night and felt very safe walking back to the hotel. The street is well lit and well traveled on. The hotel is one block from the St. Charles Railcar. The first two days we took the railcar to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. The last day we were there it was just quicker to walk to Bourbon Street. About an 8min walk. Once again that was well lit and a lot of foot traffic so we felt safe as well. Everything we did while there was within walking distance. I only drove the car twice the entire 4 days we were there. We rode the steamboat on the Mississippi and that was only a 15 min walk from the hotel. By the way, parts of Bourbon street closest to Canal had an unpleasant smell but other than that the French Quarter was clean, well lit and safe. I never felt I was in danger even close to midnite.

Clean, quiet. Rather average service and amenities. Somewhat out of the way, but good access to taxi's and the St. Charles trolley. A good value.

We have stayed just outside the French Quarter 4 other times but this was our first stay with Homewood Suites. It was fantastic. I couldn't give any higher praise. The staff were all friendly, helpful and happy to be doing their jobs. The room was very large compared to other NO hotel rooms. We had fridge, micro and stove although we only used the fridge. Parking was cheaper than any other hotel I contacted and the room was clean, the bed was wonderful and the breakfast was fabulous. Waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, cereal, yogurt. You name it, they had it. And in the evening during the week they have wine, beer and a light dinner/snack for you. The distance from the French Quarter was about 4 blocks. We will definitely look for Homewood Suites when we travel this summer out West.

We stayed at the Homewood Suites based on TripAdvisor reviews, and were not disappointed. Check-in was smooth and fast, and our room was big, clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Having a fridge was really convenient, as was the free internet.

The breakfast was better than the average hotel continental breakfast, too-- excellent variety that included both healthy and not-so-healthy choices.

The hotel is easy walking distance from the streetcar lines and the French Quarter. The only possible negative (and it's a minor one) is that there aren't a lot of restaurants within a block or two, unless you want to go to a restaurant in another one of the hotels along Poydras, but that's not a big deal-- you probably want to go into the French Quarter to eat, anyway!

We'd definitely stay here again. Excellent value.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Homewood Suites in New Orleans. The location is good, five or so long blocks to the Casino and Aquarium, and 3 or 4 shorter blocks to the French Quarter. Also, a good location to walk to the Superdome or Arena. Our 1-bedroom suite consisted of a bedroom with 2 roomy queen beds, a bathroom (with sink outside the toilet/shower room), and a combination den/kitchen.

The morning breakfast was fine--eggs and either sausage, bacon, or some odd pork product (Canadian bacon, maybe?), plus fruit, waffles, cereal, coffee cake. A good start to the day.

The evening meals were nothing to write home about, but were certainly edible, and saved us a lot of money. We ate lunches out with our kids, and ate breakfast and dinner (M-Th) at the hotel.

The reason I didn't give the hotel 5 stars is that there was an odd knocking noise coming from within the walls of our bathroom. The maintenance man heard it, but could do nothing to remedy the situation. It was a loud noise that occurred most often in the middle of the night.

Also, be aware the this hotel does not provide hair conditioner. We asked for some, and were promised some, but were later told that there is none available.

Anyhow, it was a good stay, and a great value for the money.

Booked for 3 nights. Clean and roomy. A true suite in a town of "suites" that do not have doors between the sleeping/living quarters.
Breakfast OK. Didn't try the managers dinner because it is New Orleans and we ate out, but it too looked OK. Good value.
