“Good hotel, but could be better”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Went there for a conference during Mardi Gras time. The building itself is very nice. I was on 24th floor, but was able to quickly move between conference and rooms multiple times per day. Breakfast was good for hotels in the US, but could have been better (bread dry, butter missing all but one day). There are several dining options in the hotel, but I didn't feel that they were that good, so you may want to walk outside and look for something better. One day I had a lot of work to do in my room, unfortunately there is no (filled) mini-bar and also the in-room dining didn't do it (food-wise). I think the hotel is ok, but leaves space for improvements. Not sure I would return.

Spacious room, I had a view of the Superdome, the room was very clean and orderly, and the staff was as friendly as could be. The hotel is huge!! No, really! It has three "restaurants", a gift shop, shoe shining services, and a Starbucks. I might be missing something but this place is wonderful. It's about a 1.5 mile distance from Bourbon St. I think it took us 30 minutes to walk there. I had no bad experiences while there.

Stayed at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans for the NBA All-Star weekend and was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The location to the Superdome/Arena is fantastic, just a 2-3 minute walk. It is about a 10 minute walk to get to Burbon street- I suggest just taking a cab, it's only a couple of bucks. There is a Starbucks on the 2nd level and all of the restaurants within the hotel are actually very good and decently priced, there is even a 24 convenience store if you need a late night snack. The gym is located on the top floor and has amazing views of the city, some good equipment there as well.

As others have mentioned the layout of the hotel is a bit confusing, but that didn't bother me too much- I've stayed in much worse. The thing I really loved about this hotel however is the fact it is so modern and up to date with technology. The elevators use a touch-pad and tells you exactly which elevator to step into that will take you directly to your floor, very convenient and efficient(tip: if you swipe your room card it recognizes which floor to take you to rather than hitting the buttons). In the rooms, the television is hooked up to the internet and you can even order room service right from your remote. The rooms themselves are quite big with lots of cabinet space and large windows letting in lots of light.

Overall I really enjoyed my 5-night stay at this hotel. Even amidst all of the chaos of All-Star weekend, this hotel never skipped a beat with its service and quality. From now on, this is the hotel I'll be staying in when visiting New Orleans.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main atrium- the northern building is older/not as nice. Higher floors of cour...

We stayed at the Hyatt for Endymion Ball and are so glad we did. Super convenient walking distance to Superdome. Gorgeous hotel with fantastic staff. Clean and perfect for a getaway Mardi Gras weekend in NOLA. Great view of river and the dome. Worth the expense.

This hotel was beautiful but the layout was rather confusing. After checking in you find the lobby elevators to gain access to the suite elevators. In order to access the suite elevators, we had to locate a kiosk to swipe your room card. This is where the confusion starts, a list of floors would appear and after selecting your floor, a small arrow would tell you which elevator to use (i.e. A, B, C etc.). When we realized which elevator to use it was too late. We stayed in a corner unit which was impressively large and very clean. It had a walk-in closet, bar sized refrigerator, a large desk for your laptop and other items or needs. The fitness center was well equipped but difficult to access from our 16th floor. We had to go to the 5th floor to use another set of elevators for the fitness center. The restaurants and bars on the property had great food and friendly service. The concierge had a desk but was MIA for much of our stay. Most of The hotel is located less than a mile from Bourbon Street French Quarter and close to other nice restaurants, bars and other nightlife. I rated my stay at the Hyatt Regency as A – because of the confusing floor plan layout and confusing elevator system. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and I believe you would too.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large with a walk-in closet. Large desk for your laptop and other needs.

I tried to check in at check-in (not early, 3 PM) time at this property and was told that my room wouldn't be ready for hours. That would mean I would miss the event that I had traveled to the city and booked the room to attend as it is a formal event and I wouldn't have any opportunity to get ready.

I was informed that they would be willing to charge me more for not honoring the reservation and give me a different room for $50 extra. I had no choice but to pay. I've now been on the phone and on hold and handed off multiple times with customer service and the best they've offered so far is that they will "log the interaction".

So if you're willing to spend extra time or money because of issues outside of your control, and get no satisfaction from customer service, this hotel is fine I guess. I won't be staying here again.

The hotel is located in downtown New Orleans and has the basic amenities that one can expect from any Hyatt hotel. The common space in the hotel is very sleek and modern. However, the basic necessities of everyday travel are lacking. Unless you're a frequent traveller of the hyatt program, wifi is $10.95 a day (and it's basic hi-speed at best) parking was expensive and the air although "filtered" was incredibly dry and uncomfortable to breathe at night. Staff was very friendly which was the only saving grace of the otherwise average modern hotel.
