“So many things went wrong...”

Checked in by a friendly guy...who forgot to give us our welcome pkg and gave us worst room in hotel, backing up to svc elevator. Like sleeping on subway tracks. No amenities, not even a shower cap. When called for second bar of soap, tipped staff, only to have maid take it back before I could use it. Had to ask twice before room was changed. The room would get really warm and humid. Then a/c would roar loud enough to wake you up. The room would be freezing in 5 minutes and the a/c would shut off. Many of my colleagues had the same complaint. And so on all night long. But the elevators are state of the art!
Plus was walking distance to French Quarter and both Canal St and St Charles streetcars.

Too high tech with no instruction. All the guests complain about the elevators. You must select floor before you enter. There are no buttons on elevator..so if you change your mind you are stuck. If you want to go from 12 to health club...you have to go down to 3 and back up. System is terrible.

There is nothing but the superdome in the vicinity.

That said the staff is terrific.

We recently attended our convention at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans. Upon arrival, we found both glasses in our room very dirty -- lip prints and cloudy smears. At our breakfast buffet, we picked up two glasses with lip prints on them! We insisted that housekeeping provide us with disposable cups throughout the remainder of our stay -- they quickly provided the disposable cups. At their restaurant (8 Block), one of our classes had a large chip at the rim. We heard from several of our colleagues that their rooms were not serviced while we were attending meetings. And, everyone was having problems with the cooling system. No matter what temperature you entered, the system did whatever it wanted!!! We were so cold once that we tried to adjust the temperature to 74 degrees, and their system cooled the room down to 65 degrees! Our remote control and wireless keyboard for their Roomlinx system both went dead the very first day -- Engineering had to come to replace one and put new batteries in the other. It was really too much work to stay at this hotel and try to focus on the business at-hand!

One final thought/comment... their restaurant (8 Block) offers a breakfast buffet that is grossly overpriced ($20.95 per person). Biscuits and gravy was $8.50, and coffee was $4.25 per cup. They must be used to travelers on an expense account! Crazy expensive!!!

The smart tv system that they are using is not so smart. The repair guy had to come twice and had to also make several calls to tech support. They compt our internet package but would have rather a new tv. Don't get the unlimited movie and internet package because its all old movies or movies that is playing on stars channel. The food here rocks. Especially their nachos and salad. Upon check out though, the employees do not understand what is going on with their charges vrs. Incidentals situation. In the morning my bill said 0 was owed but was insisting that room service or incidentals can not be applied together when another employee insisted that it does. So I didn't have extra fees but could easily have depending on YOUR Education of how it works. Please be aware of that tidbit. The buffet is good too along with the servers.

This stay was enjoyable. Hyatt is always a safe value for me. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, comfortable and modern. Price was very reasonable for the quality of the place.
10-15 minutes walk from French Quarter, right in front of the Superdome. And very important for me... Starbuck coffee inside the hotel! I highly recommend this hotel. Enjoy

Located next to the Superdome, this large, remodeled hotel was efficiently run, clean, and state of the art in many aspects - mostly technology. But the bones of the hotel are still old, as seen in the noisy A/C units, fixed glass windows, small bathrooms and uninspired architecture (including the layers upon layers of identical floors viewed across the floor to roof atrium. While the communal areas are newly built out, the entrance to the hotel is badly designed - as the lobby is set on one street while the hotel is really on the street behind, with an odd series of escalators that one needs to take to connect the two.

The hotel is not that convenient for anything other than the Superdome. For those who don't mind a 15 min walk through iffy neighbourhoods you can get to Canal Street and then on to the French Quarter. About 30 mins walk to Jackson Square / Mississippi.

Sleeping at night is challenging as the rooms stay hot so A/C is a must, but the units are old and very noisy - bring ear plugs. No fresh air available, so expect to be dried out by morning. Bedding was average - not up to Westin standards. One free internet connection provided - an improvement over no free internet, but very inconvenient in todays world as families and individuals often have more than one device - in this case you must pay more for access. Parking is expensive - about $30/day.

The hotel is beautiful and well appointed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay. The beds are very comfortable and the air conditioner worked great. My only complaint would be the soap provided in the bathroom. It felt like it left a film on my skin that I could not rise off. Perhaps the hotel has hard water. Anyway's that would not be enough to deter me from staying here in the future.

For those wishing to hit Bourbon St., you can walk but I would suggest grabbing a cab.
