I have been on a Royal Carriage tour twice in NOLA...both times they were great. i highly recommend the personal carriage for 4 if you are with a small group...it's a more one-on-one tour with the guide and you can ask lots of questions. They are so knowledgeable and interesting...you can tell them what you are most interested in hearing about, like architecture, the history, "spooky" stories etc. The guides have great personalities and the horses are lovely. I really appreciated that they treat the horses very well. They only "work" 6 mos of the year, and the other 6 mos they go to a retreat where they get to just relax. On the last tour, our guide stopped at the oldest bar in NOLA (and North America) where we could purchase "the best Hurricane drink in NOLA" - I would highly recommend it...you get to keep your souvenir cup.

We have taken this tour before and if you ask for a different our they will customize to what you want.

We wanted a tour of the off beat areas around the quarter and not he old inside the quarter and up and down the inside streets of the quarter which you can do yourself walking.

Our guide I think was Amy was over the top informative and we saw exactly what we wanted the real area of the locals around the quarter and outside the quarter and all the local flavor we could want and all for 36.00 each (four of us) for an hour and a half!

It was so worth it we were over the top and will do it again!

This was the real New Orleans, the architecture, the people and the feel!

We happened to catch a group carriage by Jackson Square on our final night in New Orleans (Saturday, October 19th). Afterwards, we had wished we would have taken a ride sooner!! Our driver (I believe his name was Bob and our horse was Harley) was insightful and pointed out a lot of the interesting sites in the French Quarter. Sure we already knew about some of the things (I.E. Andrew Jackson's statute, St. Louis Cathedral, etc.) but he also pointed out places we might have otherwise overlooked (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's home, Clay Shaw's old home, etc.).He even stopped the tour for several minutes because we had inquired about the address of Sandra Bullock's home in the Garden District. It wasn't even on our tour, but he was heading that way later in the evening for a bridal party so he had the address of her house somewhere. He never found it, but was able to give us a general idea.

He also told us about some of the bars and restaurants. That's the kind of information that would have been helpful earlier in our trip as we were trying to decide where to eat. There are A LOT of restaurants in the French Quarter alone and trying to find the best ones can be tricky for someone visiting the city for the first time like us.

A side note, he did stop by a bar in the French Quarter (I can't remember if it was on the far end of Bourbon Street or not) where someone was willing to take any orders the riders had. We didn't want anything, but it's nice to know if you want an adult beverage in the middle of the ride there is an opportunity.

A half-hour ride in a group carriage (which can probably sit about 12 people total) was $18 per person. With a tip, I ended up spending $45. Yes, that is a lot of money for a half-hour ride through the French Quarter, but it was enjoyable and much less expensive than taking a private carriage ride (something like $90 for a half-hour)!!

This tour was one of my favorites! Our tour guide Carlo was great, he was extremely animated, and made the ride interesting and informative. This tour took us to the infamous St Louis Cemetery Number One where the Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau is said to be buried, it was a surreal and beautiful sight, also the tour took us through areas of the city that are not accessible by car and Carlo told us the history of Louis Armstrong and other places. GREAT TIME and GREAT PRICE!

I'm a NOLA local and took a tour today with Mark and Mike (the mule). I had a really good time! Mark was most informative. It was a little noisy due to street repairs but he was easily heard over the noise. The other people with me seemed to enjoy the tour too!
