“Decent hotel, better location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Stayed here for weekend full of football games in the Dome. Location is super with access to both the Dome and the Quarter. Rooms were kind of small with some age showing (wallpaper peeling off walls). Not uncommon for a lot of downtown hotels. Bar/lobby was nice. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Certainly less expensive than the Ritz and the Roosevelt, but still a little high for the room. If you are not planning on hanging around the hotel for long periods of time, certainly a decent property.

Room Tip: Interior rooms are quieter.

Just returned from weekend stay at Pere Marquette. Hotel looks great and our corner room was really nice. Close to Canal Street and French Quarter. Parked on nearby streets and had no problems. Wifi in lobby is free.

Room Tip: Ask for corner room - we had 10th floor and nice view.

We're native New Orleanians and stayed here waiting for our power to return after Hurricane Issac. The restaurant MILA is in the hotel and is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. We ordered room service and were shocked at how good the food was. So we ordered breakfast the next morning. The wheat pancakes with bananas and walnuts were to die for. So we did lunch. Great gumbo and awesome ceasar salad. We finally had to ask and were told that the same cooks from MILA do the room service orders. Reasonably priced too for room service. The hotel bar is actually a fun place; not the usual drab hotel bar. Service was excellent. You can order room service to the pool from the phone by the door. I love the Roosevelt in New Orleans but now I think I love this one more. Only knock was that our first room with one double bed was very tiny. We complained and within 15 minutes they moved us to a bigger room at no additional charge. Very happy with our stay.

Room Tip: Get a room with at least 2 beds or it might be tiny.

we visited NOLA in august and stayed at this renaissance. the room we had was quite dirty and the carpet really needed to be replaced. the windows were really run down and old. the rooms were small. we had a view of the pool at the Roosevelt across the street. their pool was outdoor, fully equipped w/ a bar and the water seemed very clean. the pool at this hotel was in a horrible location behind the building. the water was lime green and there was not a soul in sight. i felt like we had checked in to Motel 6 when you compare the condition of the pool at this hotel to the one i had to see everyday at the Roosevelt. we were here at this hotel for 3 nights and on the 2nd night, the toilet decided to overflow w/ only pee in it. they had us waiting for over 3 hours and eventually some bellman guy w/ a plunger. he said it was not part of his job, but was stuck w/ the duty. he went in and plunged away w/ wild abandonment. being a clueless man that he was, his plunging resulted in tons of toilet water splattering all over the bathroom that he decided he would leave for me to clean up. swell guy! after all of that, the toilet was still stuck and the smell in the sewer line was now inside the shower. needless to say, the smell was just fantastic. it is now midnight and my little kids are still up because we have no idea when the next person would come to fix the problem. eventually, i insisted on moving and they claim to be full. but, after some screaming and a long come to Jesus conversation w/ a manager, the miraculously found another room for me and my 2 kids. the room was marginally better, minus the special toilet smell. needless to say, we were exhausted and finally went to bed at 1:30am after transferring all of our things. the only few redeeming quality about this hotel was the one tall lady that checked us in. i cannot remember her name, but she was great. the hotel restaurant had a great breakfast. the price i paid for this hotel was only marginally less than the Roosevelt across the street. did i kick myself for not spending the extra $20 that it would have taken to stay at the historic Roosevelt? you bet! i only opted for the Renaissance product because it was part of Marriott and i did not know the Roosevelt was so much better. next time i am in NOLA, i will be checking into the Roosevelt and avoid smelly toilet and green pool.

Room Tip: Go to this hotel for the breakfast and stay at the Roosevelt across the street.

Recently back from a weekend trip to NOLA. We were pleasantly surprised at how clean, stylish and comfortable this hotel was.

LOBBY - The lobby was welcoming, seating was comfy and entire main floor offered free wifi.

ROOMS - The rooms were clean, bedding was comfortable and Aveda products were the product of the house. Internet in the room comes with a charge.

POOL - The pool was small but after a day of walking and exploring, we decided to go for a dip each day. Again, nice, contemporary and modern decor.

LOCATION - 1 minute from Bourbon, 2 minutes to St. Charles Trolly, 10 minute walk (if that) the the Aquarium and waterfront trolly line. Perfect!

RECOMMENDATION - We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. Great value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out onto the Roosevelt pool.

I had a choice between this and the Roosevelt, a block away, for the same government rate; wanted to be "Marriott loyal" but wonder what I missed. Convenient location just a block away from the French Quarter; excellent restaurant (Mila) attached. Bar, Starbucks, and nice sitting areas on the first floor. The reception desk seemed crowded and often with a waiting line. Rooms were fine. The concierge lounge on the top floor had some nice hors d'oeuvres in the evening but very spartan offerings (mainly runny scrambled eggs) in the morning. Gym was ok with aerobic equipment but no lap pool. Service staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel was fine...I have come to expect a great deal from Renaissance hotels and this one fell a little short. The facilities were good but not great. Restaurant and bar wee only average. Room was nice but service was inconsistent. Again, no major problems...but the chain is usually better than this.
