“Best BnB or hotel in New Orleans. Home away from home”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

We and friends have stayed here twice now and we are so lucky to have found the Green House Inn. It is located in the Lower Garden District just a short walk to St Charles and a 10 minute trolley ride (or 15 minute safe walk) to the Quarter. If you haven't stayed in this area, you are missing one of the great areas of the city.

The staff goes beyond friendly - they make you feel part of the family. The parking and internet is free. Good luck finding that in the Quarter. The house is very nicely decorated with old photos and a baby grand piano. The rooms are very clean and I must say the bed is the most comfortable I've ever slept in. I travel extensively and cannot overstate the comfort of the bed.

The pool is refreshing; the hot tub well maintained. The pool has a beautiful garden area that provides ample shade from the N.O. sun. There is also plenty of sun if you want. Rio, the parrot keeps watch over his domain.

The pool is clothing optional and no one makes a deal of it. Kick back, relax and meet very pleasant people. Live and let live is their motto.

My life is extremely hectic and I look forward to every visit. Heck, I would visit New Orleans just to relax and get away from stress at the Green House Inn.

Room Tip: The outside room can be a little noisy from the bar across the street but hey....this is New Orleans...

We found this Inn on Bring Fido.com (excellent place to go for pet friendly travel). We called last minute, the day before we were to arrive, and they were able to accommodate us for one night of our travel. I wish we were able to stay for a month! This house, the innkeepers, the pool area, the location....all of it exceeded our expectations. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were great, the rooms were large and clean as well. They provide plush linens, towels, and robes. They first floor rooms have private doors to the pool area. The pool area is a tropical paradise. The pool area is European Style, meaning clothing optional. We wore our swimming suits with no problems. :-) The continental breakfast was excellent (cereal, juice, waffles, boiled eggs, oatmeal, muffins). This Inn is very pet friendly as well. I brought our 60 pound lab/pit mix and he was treated like one of the family. The innkeepers (Frank, Jessie and Charles) were all great too! They are very helpful with tourist type information and there are binders in each room with pages of helpful information. Staying in the Inn really felt like we were staying with old friends. That rarely happens at bed and breakfast establishments. We cant wait to go back!!!

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms are great for access to the pool and the parking area. It was very easy to ha...

I was going to write a detailed review of the Green House Inn but the most recent review posted (by Walt K) is a pretty accurate description. I would like to add they are very pet friendly. We brought our very well-behaved dog and they were kind to her and recommended pet friendly restaurants/bars for us to visit. They also directed us to a park a couple of blocks away to walk her. The park is beautiful and we were worried about it being safe to walk her at night but we felt completely safe at all times. The park does close at 10:30 pm. Frank the Assistant Inn Keeper gave us many helpful suggestions on how to best see the sights of the city. He was very pleasant and accommodating to anything we needed. The only negative I can think of is that the rooms aren't completely sound-proof, we could definitely hear people walking around in the house or talking by the pool but we were expecting that in an older home. I'm a lighter sleeper than most, so this might not bother some people.

We spent four nights at the Green House Inn and enjoyed some much needed rest and relaxation. The house is very old and reminded me of a lot of the small hotels where I've stayed in Europe. Clean and freshly painted but with natural "character" that just adds to the ambiance. Our room was very comfortable. I travel on business all over the world staying in high-end hotels and would rate the bed as A+ which was a welcome surprise. Plenty of hot water, AC worked great, very clean linen and towels, etc.

The pool/garden area really is outstanding and we spent a lot of time there relaxing and enjoying the tropical ambiance. The staff spent a lot of time cleaning flowers and leaves that fell into the pool and hot tub which seemed to be a losing battle, but then again the floating flowers added to the overall tropical effect. There are only ten rooms and guests stay busy enjoying all the New Orleans sites and activities so it was never crowded even during the evenings. Often we had the garden all to ourselves which was just fine for us, very peaceful and relaxing. But we also enjoyed meeting other guests there- quite a diverse group which changed day-to-day as they checked in and out.

The pool area is clothing optional which is very unusual in the US. Some made full use of this "feature" while we were there and others did not, though I am sure some shy couples snuck out late at night to enjoy the hot tub in the buff while the rest of the guests were asleep. If you have never been in this sort of environment don't be shocked, better yet make use of the rare opportunity in whatever way you feel comfortable.

The location is in a bit of a transition area in between the city and the garden district but we felt perfectly safe walking about, and the St. Charles streetcar is only three short blocks away. Everything is within walking distance for those that are fit and trim, but we enjoyed riding the trolleys.

Service was outstanding. Jesse and Frank really seemed to enjoy helping the guests and were very helpful in providing advice to New Orleans "newbies" like us. Breakfast was basic but the coffee was very good and plentiful, and having beer in the coke machine was an added bonus.

We had a wonderful time and if/when we return to New Orleans we will definitely stay at the Green House Inn again!

Room Tip: Be sure to visit the Inn's website since they have a very accurate description with pictures for...

Ok, negative first: remember this establishment is not not a Bed and Breakfast but an inn, you will probably get more variety in breakfast from a continental breakfast at a chain hotel. The location is a distance from things but learn the bus route or trolley: not a legit complaint because the walk anywhere is short. So I guess I am stretching looking for negative. Positives? what you get is a very nice inn The pool area is very private and just an oasis especially at night. The hot tub is great but enjoy the salt water pool. We loved the diversity here, That is unusual .We debated the qualities during our 4 day visit. we loved the pool area hands down. I loved the quilt that is fabulous( bedding guy)the bed we both agreed above average. My S/O loved the back to back shower. We debated between Jesse or Frank who actually was authentically friendly and who was faking. They are very into service. They proved that over our stay. This is a great place , you will enjoy it. We did

Hello Twerney,

Thank you for your stay with us and your review! Unfortunately, our Municipal laws prohibit us from offering hot meals to our guests, but there are a number of great places offering hot breakfasts with 2 1/2 blocks. We are happy that y'all enjoyed our saltwater pool & hot tub and your stay with us! It was our pleasure to have y'all as guests and please come back for another visit soon!

The attention to detail by the staff is amazing. They have put together a comprehensive book to help guests find some of the best spots to eat and visit while in New Orleans. This book also contains a history of the Inn and the extensive renovations it has undergone to reach its current state.
Rooms are beautifully simple and welcoming.. The common areas of the Inn make you feel as if you've stepped into a wealthy merchants home of a simpler era. There is a wonderful Grand Piano and paintings throughout the parlor and dining room.
The pool area has been carefully landscaped and you feel as if you are not in the middle of a major city.
