We booked an afternoon cruise. Drinks and food were available for purchase but was not included in the ticket price. We were fortunate to take the steamboat ride on the same weekend as the re-enactment of the Battle of 1814 at Chalmette National Site. The cruise was narrated from the time we left the dock until we got to the battlefield. Historical buildings, landmarks, other water craft on the river, and general history were discussed as part of the narration. The ride was very relaxing. After the visit to the National Site, we reboarded the boat back to the dock. Very little narration on the return trip until the last five minutes of the trip. Well worth the money to do at least one time.

Jazz music is playing, the smell of jambalaya is in the air, and the breeze off the Mississippi is in your hair. Are you in a special part of paradise, specially reserved for those who would rather be in New Orleans? No... you have merely boarded the Creole Queen!

The Dinner Jazz Cruise is the perfect way to compliment any visit to New Orleans. This gorgeous Paddlewheeler sails down the Mississippi River, offering up a delicious Creole buffet, complete with gumbo, baked chicken, beef brisket, and jambalaya. And would any feast be complete without bread pudding?

The decor of this unbelievable vessel is reminiscent of a time long gone, when a leisurely drift down the river was the norm. And the lovely promenade on the top deck is the most wonderful place to enjoy a drink, while taking in the panoramic views of the city.

And then there is the music. This Jazz band is superb! Often even taking requests, they literally fill the night with music, with couples swaying to the sound.
When you find yourself in New Orleans, make sure to also find yourself aboard the Creole Queen!

The dinner jazz cruise was not worth the money we spent. The food was not good. The only food that was good were the corn bread muffins. The entertainment was less than satisfactory to say the least. Not entertaining whatsoever.

The ride on the riverboat is what I would have expected. They pointed out some sites as you went. The reason we chose this riverboat was the stop at the battlefield but the visitors center was closed the day we were there. If this is your interest, make sure the visitors center is open the day of your tour. You could get off and walk around but I am not sure I got what the battle was all about by just visiting the grounds. The food you were able to buy was poor and the on board staff was rude. They have the food set up at warmers on one side of the room but don't go there to order or you will be yelled at. You need to pay at the bar and then go over there to be served by the most unfriendly person we found in New Orleans.
I think if we were to go again I would try the other riverboat, which was our first choice, but because of timing and the battlefield stop, we chose this one.

This was not my top experience of New Orleans. We went on the New Year's Eve tour. They had a DJ (disappointing) that did not know his audience. Not only that but he played some songs two-three times within the time we were on the boat. I would have wished he would have played more regional type music (blues, jazz, etc), but instead a lot of it was club/techno type stuff. The majority of the crowd was 35 and up. Not a good idea.
