What should have been a great honeymoon went horribly wrong. The room was not ready until 5 PM when they promised us 2 PM and ---- hold your hat --- there was a dead rat in the toilet!

The front desk people didn't care and the manager said "Its the Quarter, we can't help it!"

We went next door to the Olde Victorian Inn and had a great stay in a room with a private balcony and a great view.

I have been coming to New Orleans with a group for Mardi Gras which has a thiry year history of visits, 25 or so of them with the Landmark.

The location is superb, the staff friendly and efficient.

I especially love the personal interaction. The staff makes you feel wanted and at home. Once when I was ill, one of them even offered to care for me.

The management always appreciates our visits; we feel a kinship with the place. It is a second home, of which I whole heartedly recommend.
For all my New Orleans visits, Mardi Gras or not, it is always "Cabbie, 920 North Rampart, The Landmark!"

I like staying at Best Western hotels and even have a membership card, which I could not use because it was a package tour, hmmm. So I chose that lovely looking place on the edge of the French Quarter. The staff was wonderful and went out of their way to be nice. The room, now that was a diffrent matter. We actually ran out of toilet paper because there was no spare and we had only a third of a roll from the start.
Even though we were 3 people, we needed to ask every day for a third set of towels. The toilet flushed all the time and was unstopable.
Apparently maintenance fixed it, but we were not amused when at midnight it would not shut up again. At about 1:30 people were shouting and partying in the court yard, which woke us all up. Had to call the reception which is 10 yards from the courtyard. Why the security guard was not aware of the going ons, is beyond me. Made a coffee the first night, pot was never cleaned during our 4 day stay. Had to ask for cups as well, as they were not renewed on a daily basis either. Even though most of the staff was alway pristinly dressed and ironed, when we spoke to the assistant manager on our check out morning, he looked like he just got out of bed, a white totaly crumpled up shirt which was half tucked in and the other half hanging out. Basically he summed the place up for us. At least we were waived the parking fee, $12.00 a day!!!
Again though, the staff was sweet and we enjoyed interacting with them.
A lot needs to be done though for us to go back to this particular Best Western.

The Best Western Landmark has a lot of work to do to become hospitable and/or habitable. Our first major problem was with the bathtub. In wouldn't drain. The 2nd person taking a shower was forced to stand in a foot-and-half of dirty water. We complained. Someone came, made a complete mess of the tub, and still it didn't drain. I wound up cleaning black shards of goo out of the tub and swore I'd never stay at a Best Western hotel again.

Then there was the TV. Three bands of color from left to right so that a car changed from blue to green to red as it drove across the screen.

The excercise room smelled so strongly of chlorine that I thought I would pass out just walking by.

We were told the wrong time for breakfast by the front desk and consequently missed it.

We arranged with the front desk for a taxi to take us to the airport but, surprise, no taxi.

I have written a letter of complaint to Best Western but, alas, as of 8 months later, have received no reply.
