My husband and I LOVE national parks- this wonderful preserve is a mere 20 minute drive from New Orleans! Boardwalk paths meander through the swamp- if you've never BEEN to a swamp, it's a glorious ecosystem. Green, lush, heavy and thick with humidity- these are positives! Wonderful place to behold. We saw alligators- most were smallish but one was a big boy meandering down the stream. Surprised we didn't see more birds- just saw two. But we'd come back at another time of day to try again. Bring water and wear bug spray! Nice side trip that's so closeby.

This is a nice place to relax for a minute- there is a courtyard with a fountain, as well as a nice exhibit introducing you to the New Orleans area.

Easy, short drive from the French Quarter but gave you the impression of being worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Saw lots of alligators, a few turtles and other wildlife. Seemed humane and not too corny.

I thought this was a great way to see the swamp, without having to deal w/ the nonsense many of the commercial tour guides invent. The park rangers were helpful and trustworthy. The swamp itself was great, saw several alligator, frogs, deer. I walked most of the boardwalks in the park. With the shade from the cypress the trail wasn't too hot.

Came across this by accident, as we were walking down the busy streets of NOLA and happened to notice two large wrought iron gates. Looked down the opening and saw it was a park area, went into the area, and enjoyed the information that was available. It also is a great place for some quite, non crowded space. On a very hot day it is a great place to cool off.
