Owner description: Friends of the Cabildo Tours are at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m from the 1850 House Museum Store on Historic Jackson Square (523 St. Ann Street). Friends of the Cabildo is a private non-profit 501 (c) 3 corporation founded in New Orleans in 1956. The FOC is a support organization for the Louisiana State Museum's and its departments of collections, education, and exhibit. Friends of the Cabildo also operates the 1850 House Museum Store for the Museum, serving as its official Louisiana State Museum Store. The Friends also provide walking tour guide training classes for licensed tour guides. The month long intense class is one of two classes in the City of New Orleans and its guides are some of the best in the city. Guides volunteer their time to give two tours a day Tuesday-Sunday from the 1850 House Museum Store (523 St. Ann Street) and each guide provides a historical, cultural and architectural view of the city that they learned in the class, but also creates a story of New Orleans that he or she has experienced. Tours leave from the 1850 House Museum Store on Historic Jackson Square at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. everyday but Monday. Note: The tail of Andrew Jackson's Horse in Jackson Square points straight at the store!

“Super Tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014

The tour was a wonderful experience and a very positive, intimate way to learn about New Orleans' history. Sandy Baptie was a very pleasant, well-informed, articulate, and knowledgeable guide who provided us with an indepth understanding of some of the highlights of New Orleans historical sites and policies. A definite must in New Orleans! The price of the ticket for the tour, the 1850 house tour and gift shop discount are really a bargain!!

“French Quarter walking tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

This was a fantastic walking tour.Lots of history, architecture and even some info about Katrina. The tour also includes free admission to the 1850 house. I felt that we got a lot for the money. Our tour guide was Anne Savoy and she was very knowledgeable about the French Quarter and its fascinating history. Thank you Anne - you do your city proud!

“An enjoyable overview with some insight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

We enjoyed our tour. Part of it was superficial (not in a bad way) and therefore good for first-timers. Part of it provided genuine insight for those already oriented or familiar. Note that this is not an orientation for the FQ: what's where, where you should go, how to find, where are the most famous buildings, etc. It is more an historical overview about buildings, architecture (without getting into excruciating detail), certain key people, etc.

Thankfully, we didn't get dragged through stories of madams, ghosts, pirates, etc. I'm sure that you can find that somewhere else.

Our guide (John?) was a voracious reader, a dedicated Saints fan, patient with the out-of-towners, a student of history, a lover of New Orleans, and a gifted storyteller. And we started and ended on time. Hooray!

“French Quarter Walking Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014

Great walking tour of the French Quarter - go here first. Highly recommend. Very personable, interesting, knowledgeable, fun. The minor cost of the walking tour also gets you into the house tour where there is a good book/gift shop.
