Owner description: Friends of the Cabildo Tours are at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m from the 1850 House Museum Store on Historic Jackson Square (523 St. Ann Street). Friends of the Cabildo is a private non-profit 501 (c) 3 corporation founded in New Orleans in 1956. The FOC is a support organization for the Louisiana State Museum's and its departments of collections, education, and exhibit. Friends of the Cabildo also operates the 1850 House Museum Store for the Museum, serving as its official Louisiana State Museum Store. The Friends also provide walking tour guide training classes for licensed tour guides. The month long intense class is one of two classes in the City of New Orleans and its guides are some of the best in the city. Guides volunteer their time to give two tours a day Tuesday-Sunday from the 1850 House Museum Store (523 St. Ann Street) and each guide provides a historical, cultural and architectural view of the city that they learned in the class, but also creates a story of New Orleans that he or she has experienced. Tours leave from the 1850 House Museum Store on Historic Jackson Square at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. everyday but Monday. Note: The tail of Andrew Jackson's Horse in Jackson Square points straight at the store!

“Well worth the time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

I not really into walking tours but our guide was excellent and made the time fly by. He gave us a lot of useful information about the history of New Orleans.Even walking the streets he pointed out some very interesting accepts of the area.
When he finished his tour we were all "lagniappe"..A cd featuring some of the local blues music.

Just pick the morning tours before it gets too hot

“A must in New Orleans if you like history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

Most comprehensive resource on the history of Louisiana. I knew a bit, but learned so much.
(One note for the admin: the air conditioning was far too strong. We were freezing and rushed the end of the visit because of the risk of getting a cold.)

“Wonderful Tour of the French Quarter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

I had just finished a cooking class and was walking around, planning on seeing the sites, and then I stumbled across this walking tour. It was a rather hot day, so for some reason I was the only one who signed up for the tour. I had a delightful time with Ed learning about the architecture and history of New Orleans. He also made sure I learned all 5 of the food groups: Muffuletta, Pralines, Crawfish, Beignets, and Gumbo and even treated me to half a Muffuletta and a sample of a praline. If you are in the area, this was a fun and interesting walking tour that I would recommend taking!

“Walk with a Cajun to find out about New Orleans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

Take a walking tour with
Friends of the Cabildo to get a locals viewpoint on life in New Orleans over its history and also today. Our guide was knowledgeable and helped us to understand how the city and its people developed over time. Also join the Friends and support the work they do.

“Most factual walking tour of French Quarter available”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

I've been on other tours of the French Quarter over the years and while they may be titillating, they are often filled with fabrications for visitors' pure enjoyment. This one, however, is run by Cabildo museum volunteers who have an incredible wealth of historical and architectural information about the French Quarter and pride themselves on factual accuracy. It was truly an enriching experience that left us even more entranced with this NOLA treasure. Don't hesitate to repeat this tour another time or two as each guide has a different emphasis, depending on their area of expertise and interest. Remember to allow at least an extra 30 minutes to an hour before or after the tour time to visit the Cabildo House museum, which is included in the price of the tour. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and rain gear (just in case).
