The month long intense class is one of two classes in the City of New Orleans and its guides are some of the best in the city. Guides volunteer their time to give two tours a day Tuesday-Sunday from the 1850 House Museum Store (523 St. Ann Street) and each guide provides a historical, cultural and architectural view of the city that they learned in the class, but also creates a story of New Orleans that he or she has experienced. Note: The tail of Andrew Jackson's Horse in Jackson Square points straight at the store!

“Wonderful walking tour of the French Quarter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

We had a great tour given by architect/ tour guide Sandra Baptie that started at the 1850's House in Jackson Square.
We came as a family of seven and each one of us really found the various parts of the tour really unique to our individual interests. Her focus outlined the various types of vernacular architecture and urban design strategies of the French Quarter. We very much enjoyed the two hour walking tour and I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area.

“Wonderful French Quarter Walking Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

Two hours spent walking with Miss Lisa was so much fun and very informative. She was full of information about the history and architecture, and really made it come alive. I felt like she was sharing a very special place with us as she told about traditions, places and events. Not to be missed if you want to get the background and enjoy a stroll!

“French Quarter Walking Tour by Friends of the Cabildo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

The two hour walking tour guided by a volunteer of this non profit organization was a lot of fun, mixing historical facts, anedcdotes and stories from personal experience. It was great to have a guide who was a native of New Orleans and who could talk to us not only about the history of the city and the architecture but also what it was like to grow up in New Orleans. Included in the walking tour is also admission to a small museum in the Pontalba appartments which showed us what it as like living there in the 19th century. All in all a very enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

“Fabulous walking tour of the French Quarter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

We toured the French Quarter with Vera on 12/19/12 through the Friends of the Cabildo. There were only 7 in our group. She was knowledgable, informative, and had great stories of the area and the history. Vera was a native and obviously very passionate about her city and about being a guide. She was easy to talk to, answered every question and made a personal connection with everyone in the group. Her tour was extremely enjoyable because it was a combination of history of Louisiana and the French Quarter as well as current events. It was a great value for $15.00 and we would highly recommend this tour.

“A wonderful tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

We toured the day before Thanksgiving and there were so many people that wanted to take the 1:30pm walking tour that they had to split us in half. I think there were 8 people plus the guide in our group, so we didn't lose each other along the easy 2 hour walk and could easily ask questions. The $15/adult walking tour ticket also includes admission to tour the 1820 House, which we did.

Our guide did a great job telling us all the fascinating history and lore we wanted to know. She pointed out rounded corners on some of the buildings - they were built long ago with sand mortar that has worn out when people touch the corner with their body or hands, how interesting. She mentioned every tour guide chooses a route that suits their knowledge, so the next time I bring more out-of-town guests to New Orleans, we'll take this tour again.
