Description: Carmo is a New Orleans-based tropical restaurant and bar with a commitment to providing vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike with healthy and affordable dishes in a warm, friendly and casual atmosphere. The menu is built upon the rich, multi-cultural culinary influences found throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America, West Africa, Southeast Asia, Gulf South and beyond and features eclectic and traditional/traditionally-inspired dishes with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, as well as unique and little-known flavors from around the world. The menu includes selections such as a Burmese Tea Leaf Salad, pão de queijo, acarajé and daily soups and specials from around the tropics. Carmo's raw seafood menu features the region's freshest fish prepared in a variety of styles, including shima sashimi (raw, flash-cured fish, a style common to Japan's tropical islands), tiradito (a Peruvian version of sashimi, smothered in aji amarillo pepper sauce) and rum-cured, cold-sm

We were so glad to have discovered this restaurant while on a recent trip to New Orleans. The food in New Orlean's is great, as everyone knows, but there are very few options if you are Vegetarian or Vegan. Carmo had a lot different veggie options to choose from and everything we tried was excellent. Went there 3 times on our 3 day trip. Great value too. Would definitely recommend.

We found this place simply by looking up local places on Yelp. The Yelp reviews were good, so we thought we'd role the dice. Well, all I can say is that we are SO glad we did. The food here was AMAZING and the entire staff was extremely friendly. The flavors were wonderful, even though some things were a bit spicy. In additional to excellent service and food, the prices were unbelievable...in a good way. Things were so inexpensive, especially for the large quantities. This is a great, off-the-beaten-path, restaurant that most visitors are unaware of. Well, all we can say is take the extra steps to find it and grab a GREAT meal!

Came here to accommodate both vegans and non-vegans in our group, and have a great meal. Unfortunately, we had an unfriendly server, and problems getting our drinks and entrees. Why four stars? The restaurant is charming, the food is amazing, and the manager made an effort to make things right. We’ll definitely be back.

I wanted to try everything on the menu. In a city that has terrific food options, Carmo stands out for the variety to meet all kinds of palates. I had the Rico with red beans. My husband had a salad with vegan ham. And we shared a ceviche. Everything was delicious. And a very large beer selection. A must try.
