“If you can stand”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

Known as "Tip's" by us locals, I've only been to the original one on Tchoupitoulas St. Great bands, local & national! But no seating except for a small bar. The room is large & filled with dancing couples & everyone else is moving to the music solo. Mostly a local crowd with some tourist. A "real" New Orleans venue.

“Dance the Night Away”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

Tipitina's is an old style Cajun dance hall with great character and music. From the outside, it is a bit faded and plain. Once inside, you feel the history of Cajun music and dancing and are caught up in the spirit of old New Orleans. The music depends on the band that is playing the venue that evening, but Tipitina’s typically engages authentic Cajun bands and musicians. The dance floor is active and crowded, and lots of fun! The bar is reasonable and adequate. Come for the family “fais dodo” on Sunday night --- the locals are especially friendly and helpful with dance guidance and demonstrations.

“Great venue for upclose experience with the musicians”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

We attended on a Freedom Friday evening. The Freedom Foundation was started to benefit music in schools for the underserved (at least that is what I recall). One Friday a month they waive the cover charge. We saw the tail end of The Brassaholics perform and they were very good. The next group was a blues player with 3 other musicians. They, too, were very good. We watched from the upstairs balcony which had a great view and was not as crowded as the floor area. As the evening went on, the venue became more and more crowded. There are limitied sitting areas so be prepared to stand, dance and enjoy!
