“Wicked cocktails, cozy atmosphere, locals only...worth a walk...”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

I visited, twice, in two days, upon the advice of a local...located on Rampart opposite the park entrance, little hole in the wall...drinks listed on a myriad of blackboards above the bar and comprehensive typed-up menu...Basil is an amazing mixologist - they make their own syrups and each cocktail is hand-crafted - so be patient and you will not be disappointed...i enjoyed their version of a PImm's Cup.
Daily happy hour between 12 and 5 with $5 drink specials...
Regarding the music, each bar tender plugs in their own ipod, so the music is individual and eclectic...which i loved...chipped stone floor, brick walls, white leatherette booths...if you like funky, local, wicked cocktails - sipping drinks not to be glugged down...stop by, relax and enjoy...if you want more upmarket, go for French 75....

“My Favorite Bar in New Orleans”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

This small and kinda off the beaten path bar is not to be missed. For anyone that wants to learn new drinks, sample local favorites, or taste some very original cocktails Bar Tonique and its mixologists are outstanding. I had my first Moscow Mule (vodka, ginger beer, and lime). It was amazing. Almost every drink is made a little special whether with fresh zest, twist of grapefruit, mint, shaved ice, or special homemade bitters and simple syrups. We also tried a champagne cocktail, mai-tai, and mint julep.

“Great little not-really-a-dive bar.”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The lone, harried bartender struggled to keep up with the steady stream of requests, including some rather elaborate drinks, but she did so with aplomb, and the Frenchman's Dark & Stormy is a New Orleans highlight. Great place to grab a drink before dinner.

“Don't miss this place!”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Our friends who are New Orleans locals recommended we check out Bar Tonique and it was great! Extensive cocktail menu; lots of locals hanging out; fabulous service - this hole in the wall bar is a great place to spend a few hours on a weekend afternoon sampling the delicious cocktails!

“Great Wine List in the French Quarter”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Good wine lists in the French Quarter are harder to find than you would think. Most of the emphasis is on cheap beer and cocktails. This is a great little locals bar with a cool mixology focused cocktail menu and an awesome little wine list. It is small, so finding a place to sit may be a struggle. Not as expensive or stuffy as the Bombay Club on Conti.
