The French Market is rich in history. I wish in the Flea Market section they would have more local merchandise being sold & not so much made in China stuff. In other sections there are merchants selling more local type items. It is a fun place to spend the day shopping & eating. (The bathrooms are not a place you want to use.)

As open air markets good this one and better than average but in general not my kind of thing. Seems to be same junk for sale in general. Did find one thing that was kinda neat (hanging pot plant).

Mostly an open air market with lots of souvenirs and knick-knacks. If you want to leave New Orleans with the obligatory can of chicory coffee, Mardi Gras beads, pralines and the like, which I did, you will find it here. I only stopped in because I stumbled upon it, but I could see where it would be a destination in and of itself for shoppers.

We went to the french market a couple different day while in NOLA . Souvenir are a little cheaper than the shops in the french quarters . Don't' jump to buying things , look a round a little . One stand might have something a little cheaper than the stand before . If eating there pay close attention to what they charge you and get a recipe . We ate at one place there ,I got 2 boudins that were 5.50ea my husband got a chicken sandwich for 9.95, the girl charged us 28.00. Yeah so I told her and she acted like she didn't know what i was talking about , so i broke it down for her . She said oh there is another price for the chicken , yeah right its advertised in two different places that i could clearly see 9.95 . Other then that was a nice place to shop around .

It is worth a walk through the French Market, although definitely compare prices if you have the time as some items were more expensive, but some definitely cheaper than elsewhere. Some artisans have excellent quality local goods, and some items are made in 'far off lands.' There is lots of food for sale including baked goods, herbs, hot sauces, coffee ... and we bought a King Cake which was just delicious.
