“Nice little spot, but a quick stop”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

There is nothing wrong with this spot, lots of great food options, a good crowd, smells delicious! But you can walk through the whole thing in 15 minutes. Stop around lunchtime for a bite to eat. It seemed more affordable than other options in the area and was cooked by true locals.

“A Bit of a Disappointment”
Reviewed September 20, 2011

I'll say that I set myself up for failure by not looking into exactly what this was. I love open air markets! Loved the Reading Terminal market in philly, the Broadway market in Buffalo, and the Jean Talon market in Montreal - but this is not an open air market like those.

The setting is great and you should give it a quick walk through if you have a few days in New Orleans, but otherwise skip it. It's cool to look up and see the old beams and stall partitions where people probably once sold their produce and such - but now it's filled with mostly cheap junk souvenirs. There are a few stalls which sell legit handmade nice stuff - but they're few and far between sadly. If this were 50 yrs ago - I'd say give it a look.

“You Can Always Find Something There”
Reviewed September 16, 2011

I visit the French Market at least twice during every trip to New Orleans. Sometimes you find great items and sometimes you don't. The whole concept of the Market has changed for the better and I like the new look. There are bargins to be had, but sometimes you just have to hunt for them especially with the t-shirts. Most of the people are willing to bargin so that makes it even more fun. An absolute must look at is Oscar. He makes his own New Orleans style jewlery and it is very unique and beautiful. Definitely a place to stop and have some fun!

“Worth a walk through if you are in the area”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Interesting to walk through, but yes these items are junk, and expensive to boot! Its still interesting to go through and Im sure some of the food is very good. its VERY hot in this area, and most of the items for sale are marked very high for what they are or even what you can find in other shops.
