I visit the French Market at least twice during every trip to New Orleans. Sometimes you find great items and sometimes you don't. The whole concept of the Market has changed for the better and I like the new look. There are bargins to be had, but sometimes you just have to hunt for them especially with the t-shirts. Most of the people are willing to bargin so that makes it even more fun. An absolute must look at is Oscar. He makes his own New Orleans style jewlery and it is very unique and beautiful. Definitely a place to stop and have some fun!

Interesting to walk through, but yes these items are junk, and expensive to boot! Its still interesting to go through and Im sure some of the food is very good. its VERY hot in this area, and most of the items for sale are marked very high for what they are or even what you can find in other shops.

Pros: There was a definite local flavor to the market. It was safe. The prices were not too steep for the handmade items.

Cons: It was a tiny market and most of the local sellers just did their own version of the same thing.

We spent a while strolling through the market. There was plenty to see from usual tourist items & t-shirts, to local food. I really enjoyed a cocktail from one of the local market stalls. It's a nice walk and interesting to see some of the things on sale if you're in the area.
