I went early on a Saturday morning and met at the designated spot for the Saint Louis No. 1 tour. After seeing throngs of people with other tour groups, I was glad that I was with a smaller tour group of only about 14 people. Our guide was enthusiastic and informative. I'm not going to tell any of the stories because you should hear them on your own tour, but I was very pleased with the depth and expansive knowledge of our tour guide about who was in which crypt and what was important about them. I was surprised to see several crypts marked in French as soldiers of Napoleon Bonaparte. Those soldiers seemed to each have reached a degree of notoriety, respect, and wealth in NOLA before they went on to meet their maker. I liked the Save Our Cemeteries concept because a lot of those crypts need repair and there is no family left to care for the graves. The idea of some of my tour price going back to support the cemeteries seemed like a noble concept to me. I would whole heartedly recommend that if you tour a cemetery in NOLA, choose this tour group to lead you around. I would recommend allowing 2.5 hours for a cemetery tour. Wear sturdy walking shoes, no flimsy flip flops, and don't forget to sunscreen yourself and grab your sunglasses.
