Tiny little deli with the best sandwiches in New Orleans. The shrimp/oyster combo will change your life.

Stopped in to this little store on Royal Street to find New Orleans best po boys, no joke! So many different types to choose from, I got dizzy from the menu board. This is not a sit down place, order your sandwiches at the counter and then your back into the streets. Highly recommeded!

We went to Verti Marte for a po boy and it didn't disappoint. It is actually a tiny grocery store with a deli counter in the back of the store. We were there on a Monday around lunch time and it was not crowded at all, but we did wait at least 20 minutes for our order, but it was worth the wait. The fried shrimp and fried chicken were hot, juicy and quite tasty. There is no where to sit down to eat so we walked to the French Market and found a bench. A bit on the pricey side for a sandwich, but they are big and the quality is good.

Eating in the FQ is tough, it's either really pricey, possibly really touristy, or sometimes just a mistake. Not Verti Mart. Their menu board is extensive and the food is serious southern french comfort food. NO TABLES, this is grab n go food, take it to a sunny bench in Jackson Square, or back to your hotel for late night snacking. I know, you're gonna walk in, think "This is a quickie mart" and you'll consider leaving and taking your chances elsewhere. Don't! Verti Mart also delivers AND this is a great bet for picking up traveling food for your trip home.
They use excellent local french bread too! BRING CASH, Verti Mart does not accept credit cards.

I was worried when we went in the grocery to order the sandwiches but one bite simply took care of any concern. We order "all that jazz" and I think it was the best sandwich I have ever had. Also these sandwiches are huge. I highly recommend them. Once you order just plan on eating on the stoop outside but you will enjoy every bite!
