“A Quiet Cottage in a Banana Tree Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2013

Pierre Coulon Guest House is a quaint, quiet cottage tucked away in a charming neighbourhood only a few blocks from the French Quarter. We stayed here for five nights in November, and especially enjoyed being able to sit in the courtyard jungle under the banana trees. And our hosts -- Rich and Stephen are wonderful. Guests have their own entrance to the yard and the private cottage, but Rich and Stephen are available to answer questions, provide suggestions about where to go and what to see, etc.

A few people warned us about the neighbourhood, but we had no trouble at all, and felt safe walking in the area after dark. The cottage has a fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker, and Rich and Stephen provided coffee, tea, and snacks (granola bars, cereal, etc.) which they were kind enough to replenish during our stay. They also provided daily light housekeeping, and a plethora of books and NOLA tourism literature.

We rented as a couple, but it would be fun to stay here with friends, as there is a second bedroom that can be opened up to accommodate additional guests. This is not a luxury accommodation, but it IS reasonably priced, spacious and comfortable, with eclectic décor and fabulous hosts. Overall, a great base for your NOLA explorations. We would stay here again.

Spent two nights in this unique guesthouse, run by Stephan and Rich and their nice little cat. I would think the guesthouse itself was servants quarters at one point, but they have redone it into a very comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of New Orleans and the French Quarter. The guesthouse is separate and across the small but beautiful courtyard from the main house. It is spotlessly clean, with an abundance of towels and a gorgeous handmade quilt on the bed. You enter through a gate door from Spain St. The guesthouse has a small livingroom and TV, a basic kitchen with lots of cereals, tea, coffee, juice and milk if you wish to partake each morning. A gift bottle of wine was left for us as well. A balcony runs across the top of the guesthouse and there's enough room for a few chairs, a table and you can sit in the sunlight, looking into a huge banana tree while you drink your wine.
It is only about a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter and a multitude of restaurants. Parking is on the street, so we parked and never moved the car after that - just walked everywhere.
It is a lovely place to stay, with charming hosts, a clean, liveable space, and what a courtyard. There is a library of an assortment of books about New Orleans and general reading, and our hosts provide an abundance of tourist information.
We will never think of staying anywhere else when we return to NOLA - it is a delightful place to relax, enjoy, be yourself.

My husband and I had a wonderful time. The location is close to the downtown area, but the house is very quiet. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. In hotel rooms I start cleaning everything with Clorox wipes. I did not feel the need to clean this location. We felt right at home and would stay at the Pierre Coulon again.

It's just what everybody says--charming setting, spacious, friendly hosts, well stocked. You have the advantage of a quiet neighborhood, the Fauborg Marigny, just a five-minute walk away from the French Quarter. And there are wonderful cafes just a block away.

We were thrilled with this place! Lots of space (2 stories!), all the needed amenities plus a great breakfast/snack selection...we tried to not dig in too much but it was nice if you were hungry after a day on the town. We bought simple breakfast/dinner to make and enjoy in the peaceful courtyard, leaving us a budget to enjoy the best restaurants at lunch. Stephen and Rich give great recommendations on food, groceries etc. and leave a selection of menus, showtimes etc. by the kitchen. Location is quiet and safe, and close to the French Quarter. Definitely captures the charm of the city - probably the most charming place I've ever stayed. Rates were more than reasonable...it's a fantastic value.

The location is convenient to everything yet quiet and private. The hosts Steve and Rich are just wonderful - considerate and friendly. I want to give this lovely place the high marks it deserves. But selfishly, I'd like to keep it secret so we'll never have to go elsewhere when in New Orleans.

Room Tip: 2 floors. 1st floor kitchen family room combo. Upstairs large room and 2nd room with bath between...

Stephen and Rich are wonderful host. Their self contained two bedroom-two level guest house is spotless and beautiful. The area is safe, quiet and in walking distance to the French Quarter.
My boyfriend and I loved our stay. Stephen and Rich were so helpful and made our stay in New Orleans better than we had hoped. I would highly recommend their beautiful quest house.

Thank you Stephen and Rich
