New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 16, 2014

after visiting many national parks, this is amongst the worst. you can't really call it a museum, and unfortunately it needs to be renovated and added to. from reading reviews it seems like the thing that makes it great is that you can see free live music. unfortunately if you don't have a lot of time then there isn't much for you.

This National Park Services site in the French Quarter offers free jazz performances several times per week. Stop in for a schedule at 916 N Peters. Some performances are also offered in a performance area in the nearby Old U.S. Mint. In addition, there are free ranger led tours of historic areas. A great deal for jazz lovers!

Opened at 9am no activites for the day, not greeted by the ranger, some photos and interactve head phone station. They really should have something going on for people during Christmas season 12/20? IT LOOKED SO MUCH BETTER ON TV and it looked fun

The park music sessions at the old U.S. mint should be without hesitation the first, and if you don't have anymore time, the only stop in New Orleans for anyone with even a a hint of love for music. How interesting to have park rangers entertain with wonderful creole and Cajun jazz or , depending on the session, blues, R&B, country and on and on. Great music and wonderful interpretations of various jazz sounds, their origins and how they are trying to maintain the Creole music which is rapidly disappearing. Well over an hour of wonderful music!! The staff were extremely well informed. A visitor also has the opportunity to purchase some nice CDs by the jazz greats as well as various history books such as the Treme part of New Orleans. The place is so steeped in the social and musical history of our country that it is a shame that drinking is at the top of most visitors' bucket lists. Do this first and then the Rangers will give some hints on where to go to hear the real music of this city.

Wanted to stop by this amazing place on a Sunday but it wasn't open. Hmm when do visitors want to see things? Wish the NPS would think about visitor needs !
