My husband and I joined one of the tours of Destrehan Plantation and swamp boat trip on Monday 20th January. We were taken via coach to the plantation. The Grey Line guide John was such an engaging character and very knowledgeable about NOLA history and culture. He kept entertained all of us during the bus ride with interesting facts.

The first stop was the plantation, where the historian in the period costume showed us around the house. The partial list of the slaves (who past away at the plantation) with their values itemised was very interesting and heartbreaking. It was good to know some of the fees went to the preservation of the historical properties such as this.

The swamp was the next stop. Captain Tom was a true Cajun man whose life was much attached to swamps. Despite a freezing day, we saw young alligators, snap turtles, aspreys (catching and eating fish), raccoons. Tom had a baby gator for us to see, which would be released to wild when ready.

Originally we booked for 4 people and 2 could not make it. John was very helpful and suggested to trade the unused tickets to other trips after we returned. We did so at the Grey Line desk at the pier without any issue (Thank you vm, Grey Line).
NB: No refund for the value difference when traded (not a problem for us as we expected so).

Great drive to the plantation with Kindrell providing a lot of information and making it great fun! Whitney plantation itself is a very informative tour about the history of slavery and the hard time these people has to endure.
