“Club level is an extravagant splurge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We spent three nights here in April 2013. We have stayed before in the regular hotel and the service from valet to check in has been superb. We splurged on the club level because it was our anniversary and there were no rooms available on the hotel side. We got a Ritz Carlton candle and two drink passes for the Davenport lounge for our anniversary. We were escorted to our room and shown the club lounge and told there were five food service times per day. The breakfasts were outstanding, I looked forward to them each morning. The concierges were appropriately attentive. However, the rest of the food service seemed to consist of a light snack service of salad and light appetizers available at noon and dinner time. Between 3-5 in the afternoon, when a competitor hotel in town would have an afternoon full tea service in the club level, there was only bottled drinks and fruit. That was disappointing.

The rooms on the club level had extremely comfortable beds and nicely appointed bathrooms. The doors were thin, though. I heard a entire exchange from the hall outside my neighbor's room from the bed!

The fitness center was very nice, the hot tub was peaceful and clean and our overall stay was lovely. Would stay here again, but I think their competitors in town offer a better New Orleans experience for a better value.

We just spent four nights here and honestly the thing that I feel needs to feature most in this review is how excellent the staff were in the club level - pleasant, professional, incredibly helpful, giving good thoughtful suggestions and advice. We found that having access to them and to the amenities was a great advantage.
The beds were comfortable - the furnishings in our room a little tired and slightly grubby if I'm nitpicking - the bathroom excellent (much better than at a recent Four Seasons Beverly Hills visit!).
We didn't eat in the hotel restaurants so I can't judge, but you're right in the middle of so many other choices. The situation is brilliant.
Even their selection of movies on demand was pretty impressive!

Room Tip: Club Level rooms are a must - it's almost a separate 75 room hotel.

The good things: good location; pleasant staff; nice rooms that were clean;
Check in was difficult: the reservations were confused by the hotel(we reserved 4 rooms for a total of 8 people); it took about half an hour to straighten it out and get all 4 rooms that had been reserved 2 months earlier. The newspapers were not delivered to the rooms; the air fresher piped through the ventilation system was heavy and way too pungent and unpleasant as were the candles that were lit on the lobby level. The really egregious issue was the alarm going off in the middle of the night ordering guests to evacuate immediately; we were on the 14th floor and the announcement was repeatedly made so we walked down a stairwell that was poorly marked and at a lower level appeared to end with no exit to utilize. Behind the "blank" wall was another set of stairs which should have had signage directing guests to it; we went down three more flights and finally exited the building onto a side street. There was no sign of fire trucks, police etc. we went to the front of the building and saw a handful of other guests from our floor. It took 20 to 30 minutes to get anyone from the staff to come downstairs and inform us that all was now fine. The staff were not trained for such an event and had it been real and not a false alarm , guests would have been at risk. We reported it to the manager who was very responsive and later that morning she told us they were redoing their plan and training for such events. They were nice about comping our rooms for that night( only one floor was affected by the false alarm). It was disturbing that a hotel with the reputation of the Ritz had such a poorly planned and poorly trained staff to deal with a potential emergency.

First time in New Orleans and was very happy with this location! Close enough to everything we wanted to see (and easy street car access) but quiet and away from everything at night. The room was huge and housekeeping was great. Very nice fitness center! The people working at the valet and concierge were very helpful and friendly. My only complaint was check in - there was a very long line of people waiting to check in and the man checking each person in spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to upsell each person to the concierge floor. Would definitely return!

The Ritz Carlton in New Orleans is an experience not to be passed up. The service is exemplary and the staff makes you feel extra special. I celebrated my birthday at the hotel and they kept leaving gifts for me. We had a club floor room and the Concierge lounge was extra special. They served food all day and evening including complementary wine, champagne and mixed drinks. The rooms were stylish and kept very clean with turn down service. The spa is fantastic...beautiful and excellent services. The hotel has an unusual layout and can be a bit confusing in finding things. I would suggest that they have better signage directing people to the various services they have. Also the fine dining restaurant was ordinary and can't compete with the excellent restaurants in New Orleans. The hotel is in an excellent location and walkable to most popular places in New Orleans. I give this hotel a high rating and would certainly go back.

Arrived 2 hours before check in time with no one at the reception desk. Plan was to check baggage and go for a walk. After 11 minutes someone arrived to handle our request.Had a $700 executive suite booked. Enter the room and in the entry there was a small closet before entering the living area. Throught the living area into bedroom where there is no closet. Found the refreshment center in a small mini freg. In a cabinet in bed room...nuts and chips in one of the three drawers, leaving two for clothes storage...remember there was no closet. Main bath had a constant 24/7 wind noise that staff said was part of the hotel HVAC system...the noise was noticeable that you had to close the bath door to watch TV. After day 3 called to have mini frig. restocked. In the living area you had to close door into bedroom to watch TV which is located in corner of room. The coffee was located in a small container sitting on the end table where you had to move lamp to use...and there was ONE PAPER cup in the container. After returning from dinner on our final 3 day stay the electrical power was out...no lights, no phone. Went to front desk and an engineer was dispatched to room. After about 30 minutes power was restored. During this the evening manager came to the room. I explained all the issues noted and she responded with an apology. Later that evening a hotel staff member delivered a gift and said we would receive one night stay off our bill. After leaving the next morning we were charged for all 3 nights...no one new anything about this one night off.
All this for $700 per night. If this meets your standard, this is the place for you.

We travel to NOLA for business about once a year. I won't stay anywhere else. This place is an oasis of calm. Ask for anything- a certain drink or food and it is yours, and included in your stay. The Club level is worth every penny. We stay at upscale hotels around the world and this one is certainly one of the best- anywhere.

The only very minor complaint is that the club level was discovered by a more rowdy 30-ish group of about 12 people over the four days we were in town and they took the place over for a few hours a day. We are in our mid-40s and enjoy a good time or we wouldn't come to NOLA-but there is a place for everything and the club level is not the place.

It's called a "club" level for a reason-it's not a bar. Most people are very respectful and kept their voices somewhat moderated but others..Management needs to stress the ground rules at the time of check in for everyone's pleasure.

Other than that- this place is wonderful- perfect for a rest or as a base for your NOLA adventures.
