“Lovely hotel in Garden area of New Orleans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

On arrival receptions seemed very busy, Beautiful room/ suite. Noticed was quite a small bathroom but not a problem to us, as luckily we have no disabilities. both had two perfect nights sleep there. Trolley bus outside, can get into town easily but felt we were in the best place as a few good restaurants there so after the first nights visit to Beake street by trolley bus...really interesting!!! the following day we did the open top bus tour from around the corner, stayed in town during the daytime and came back 7.30 PM and went on later to eat at Thea a lovely bistro type restaurant recommended by Tourist board ....well done them !!!! Hotel convenient to walk around the Garden quarter, view a graveyard which us a MUST also, but not in the hustle and bustle of New Orleans the whole time, Jacuzzi in rear if hotel, complimentary tea & coffee extra to that in room useful.

Room Tip: Heard the ice machine which if outside our bedroom would have been noisy. Apart from that ALL rooms...

My husband and I are fans of the UCONN women's basketball team. The final four was in New Orleans. We booked through RCI and were excited to go. After booking I read some reviews, and was a little concerned. Some of the reviews were not very good. We have to disagree. The hotel was absolutely lovely. Very clean, nicely decorated and a very good location, right across the street from a streetcar stop in the Garden District. There is a pretty pool area, with Jazz coming from somewhere, nice and relaxing. The onsite restaurant is Mr. John's steakhouse. Really great meal with a nice atmosphere, need reservation, especially on Saturday night. The hotel staff was very good, helpful in recommending restaurants, tours, etc. Down the street is a small moderately priced restaurant named Cheesecake Inc, dinner was good but dessert was fabulous. The cheesecake topped with Bananas Foster is my new favorite dessert. Awesome good. We had a wonderful experience at Avenue Plaza and would recommend it without hesitation. Bonus!!
We won!!!!!

Room Tip: We were on the sixth floor and the view at night of the city lights was really pretty.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Across the courtyard in the back is Ashely House which is considered haunted. We took three tours, two with the staff and other tourists and the third on an off day where we gave them some information and a DVD of photos we had taken as proof the house IS haunted. My husband and I took pictures not only on the tours but at night while in the courtyard. The place is surrounded with Orbs. On tour days we took pictures inside the house AND outside looking at the windows. While comparing the photos there were definite differences. Lights were on in the extension to the house yet nobody was inside. There were faces in some of the windows of people from the era of the house. One photo showed a union soldier's face. By placing that face next to the face of the man in the picture in the living area, they were not the same person. The union soldiers face only appeared in one photo of that window even with pictures taken rapidly one after the other. My camera is a high speed professional one. On the private tour on a Friday, I felt a presence and turned and took a picture of that corner. When I uploaded the pictures to my computer, there were three orbs in that corner and one was traveling. On our first morning though I had a bad experience that had nothing to do with the resort. Someone had stolen some of my medications at the motel where we stayed on route to this resort. I felt cold, as if I were in the water the Titanic was in. I had a seizure and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Of course that was done discreetly so as not to alarm the other guests. The security guard was very thoughtful and concerned about me when we returned to the resort. We plan to go back. Besides we need to take more pictures of Ashley House. The resort is walking distance to Subway which is where we do a lot of our eating out even here at home. It also is not far from fantastic Creole and Cajun eateries. Be sure to go to the Insectatorium which also is nearby. Oh, they were filming a movie across the street but there was a large long curtain covering what was taking place. It was still a bit exciting. This was back in Nov 2011. I might post pictures later.

Room Tip: It's Valet Parking but the service is quick.

Quiet clean hotel eith comfortable beds and larger sized rooms with walk in closets. Very safe and pretty Garden district. Right on street trolley to downtown. There is do much to do in New Orleans. Never used the hotel restaurant but kitchen came in handy.

I was able to book a studio unit at the last minute for Jazz Fest this year. We'd stayed at this location a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised at the upgrades. Although our previous unit was a full 1 bedroom, the size of the studio was perfectly fine for the two of us. Yes the bathrooms are tiny but hey, you're in the city. The staff was very friendly and provided great insider tips on how to navigate the city. Although I like the location of Wyndham's other property more because of its proximity to Canal St., I would not hesitate to stay here again. As mentioned in other reviews, the Streetcar stops directly in front of the hotel so transportation is never an issue. It ran until 4AM.

How much do we hate this place? Well, imagine a room placed right behind the very loud elevators that go up and down every couple of minutes. Imagine being in a room right next to a train track. Imagine an uncaring and incompetent "service" staff. Now multiply that by 100. ... You'd be getting close to how much we hate this place. For a Wyndham and we have a platinum membership, there is just no excuse. ... But you have to remember, if the staff is this incompetent, uncaring and borderline insulting, they must feel that they have permission to be that way from upper management. ... Obviously, my wife and I will never stay here again. ... We have stayed in the Wyndham Belle Maison before without even a hint of a problem. If you must be In a. Wyndham in New Orleans, it'll be the Belle Maison. This place is unforgivable.

The property is a suite hotel. The converted hotel rooms were done fairly well except the bathroom is absurdly small and when you sit on the toilet you do a lot of shoulder rubbing with the vanity. The shower was nice but tiny, and the bracket for the handheld shower head was broken you had to wrestle that in order to start a shower. The kitchen was nice and complete. It was hard to figure out what housekeeping services were provided and when the trash would pile up and take up too much space I would have to go ask someone how to get rid of the trash. I also did not care for the secret condo sales pitch that they kept wanting to give to us. They held free activities but when you inquired you had to go to a timeshare pitch to get the freebies. Not very transparent. The bell hop staff were very helpful.
