Once again, we stayed at Avenue Plaza. As usual, the valet, front desk and almost every employee greeted us and made us feel welcome. Yes, it's a timeshare, so treat it like your home away from home and don't expect a daily cleaning. If you want hotel service, then go stay in a hotel... This is pretty much a do-it-yourself resort with a touch of class. There's a cool little bar next door that serves food for those "late nighters", so don't whine when you can't get room service at 3AM (again it's a resort not a hotel, so buy your own food or go next door). For breakfast, I recommend the "Trolley Stop Cafe" just down the street for down-home cookin or "Mothers" crawfish etoufee omelette for breakfast. If you must go to Cafe Dumond then do it once. Yes, you have to pay for parking and no, you are not being singled out at the resort, because parking is a premium anywhere in New Orleans. For Dinner, go to "Oceana" on Bourbon and Conti (pronounced con-tie) and don't waste your time at the overpriced, brand named feed troughs there. The St. Charles/Green LIne street car stops in front of the resort and you can get passes at the convenience store or the drug store down the street. Make it a great new orleans experience and say hello to everyone (it's the new orleans, southern hospitality way)

I was looking for a one bedroom suite with a sofabed, so the Avenue Plaza was perfect. Location was great. Much quieter than staying in the French Quarter, but only a ten minute streetcar (which picks up and drops off right in front of the hotel) away that part of NOLA. Very cute pool that shared a courtyard with the Ashley House (supposedly the most haunted house in America, which sounds wierd but if you are not visiting a plantation, it's nice to have a historic house in the backyard of your hotel...plus the hotel staff will give you a free tour of the house too). Most of the staff is very courteous and helpful. I checked in at 10 pm and there were no linens for the sofabed. We called but still had to wait over an hour before putting a second call in and then having to finally go down there myself to get them. So as long as you are a "DIY" kind of person, you won't have a problem. There were many people on hand to answer questions about seeing the city. The internet room was free as well as the printer, which made checking into the airport really easy. There were a few shady moments walking along St. Charles at night with people askng for spare change, but the same would probably happen in a different part of the city. There are a few restaurants in that part of town, but not many. The bonus is that you are literally across the street from the Garden District, so beautiful scenery is a stone's throw away. All in all, I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Avenue Plaza is 21 blocks, a short 15 minute St Charles streetcar line ride, to Canal Street and the French Quarter. Senior fare is $.40 per trip, one,3,5 day passes for adults on sale at grocery store on the corner.
Staff was very friendly and accomodating of anyhting we asked. Booked a couple tours, and were picked up right outside the hotel.
Room was nice, bathroom a little small, but what a great shower. Others have complained about the old elevators, but they just replaced one, were working on the second last week, and will have the third done by end of April.
Pool was very nice and courtyard was very peaceful; there is also a 12th floor sundeck.
Very nice steakhouse at the hotel, and we had numerous restaurants within a 6 block walk. Trolly stop Cafe, Copelands, Houstons and Voodoo BBQ were very good.
Ask at the concierge table for a printout of a free walking tour of the Garden District. We ate at Coquettes at end of tour-best meal of the week.

My wife & I stayed in a studio unit (509) for 7 nights and were happy with the property and the location. The unit we had was not renovated but had everything we needed. The king bed was comfortable and there was more then enough room for 2 people. We also took advantage of the free laundry.

Other then the timeshare sales people - the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The location was great as the streetcar stops right in front of the property and it is a short ride to the Quarter or to the Garden District. We highly recommend a person gets a "Jazzy Pass" at Williams market. A 5 day pass was only $20 and was well worth it.

One thing a person staying here has to keep in mind is that this is a timeshare property so there is no daily maid service but since we knew that going in it wasn't a problem.

Overall, we were happy with the property and would stay there again.

Pros:
- Checkin was a breeze
- Free wireless internet
- Free use of the business center
- Nice location in the center of the Garden district
- Free use of laundry facilities
- Free use of pool and gym
- Fully stocked kitchenette (even w/ dishwasher) and complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and microwave popcorn!)
- Sun roof deck
- Spacious room

Cons:
- Self-catering (admittedly, there´s a good steakhouse in the hotel, but steak´s not my fav for breakfast)
- A/C suddenly turns on full blast randomly for 30s

Summary:
My employer wants us to travel on a tight budget, thus, hotel reservations are made as far in advance as one could concieve the actual trip. Experiences from me and colleagues have shown that this often results in rather mediocre stays. But we all learn and I had looked up several hotels on Tripadvisor and specifically asked the person responsible for booking to choose Avenue Plaza.
And this time this was the perfect thing to do. It´s neither located on Bourbon or Canal Street nor is it in the heart of the French Quarter - but it´s perfectly located in the Garden District, easily accessible by public transport as well as by car or shuttle service. The employees were always very helpful and I left with the impression that everyone tried to reach the best solution for the customer.

Definitely one of the hotels I wil lremember and recommend.

After traveling all night on the red eye, we arrived at 6:30am at the Wyndham Avenue Plaza to find out that our reservation unbeknown to us had been cancelled. This information according to the front desk. We were told that there was nothing that could be done. It was only after 2 hours of email and phone calls that we were finally in our room. Needless to say, we were somewhat distrought. There was no explanation as to what had happened, but magically our reservation reappeared and all was well. Don't like to give a bad review, but this is what happened. Not sure whether I will book with Extra holidays again. The room itself was very nice as we were placed in a completely refurbished room. The staff was friendly and helpful after they were finally convinced that we actuallyt should be there. Maybe it is due to the refurbishing process or just that it is part of the New Orleans relaxed culture, but the elevators and hallways were not vacummed once while we were there. Just makes one wonder about cleanliness.

My wife has a timeshare we used here. The reviews on TA seemed positive, so we were in for quite a shock. We were given a room on the second floor that was similar to many of the pictures online, minus the bathroom. There were towels in the hallway from the time we check in until we checked out. The room stunk..we had to turn up the A/C to make it even bareable. The whole place seemed dirty. There was a security gaurd checking all the closets that didn't make us feel very safe. The consiegre lady was very helpful booking the tours. The topper was the shower design. It was open and faced the toilet. When I turned on the shower and it sprayed all over the toilet and soaked the toilet paper. Even though our stay was included in the timeshare, we checked out and headed to a hotel in the French Quarter. I would not recommend this place, and despite the street car, I would recommend staying in the Frech Quarter because you can just walk everywhere.
