“The Original Coffee Stand”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Café Du Monde has been at it for many many years! Long before Starbucks came on the scene, the place to go has been Café Du Monde! Suck down that wonderful thick chicory coffee - black like Frank Zappa, or half and half with hot milk. And don't miss those square doughnuts with powdered sugar - beignets! Just be sure to cover your jeans or black pants with napkins before eating said beignets or you'll be covered in powdered sugar remnants and everyone will know where you just ate!

“Overrated”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Decent coffee, and I suppose you have to do it if you're in New Orleans, but basically you wait in line to sit at a sticky table where everything is covered in the powdered sugar from the previous guests' beignets. The service is fine for what it is, an outdoor café. And the beignets are good cos they're warm. The first time we went there was a great band playing beside the café, which really added to the experience, but that was just by chance.

“Go to Say You've Been”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Fortunately we did not have to stand in line as we were told might happen. The coffee here is so-so, nothing special. The beignets are OK, but again, nothing specail. This is one of those places you go so that you can say you've been. At one time it probably had some charm, but now it is just crowded, slow, and over touristed.

“Nobody goes there anymore--It's too crowded!”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

A visit to New Orleans is not complete without a visit to this landmark. Only drawback--everybody feels this way; so you are likely to experience a very long wait just to get a doughnut you could purchase immediately across the counter at numerous other nearby places.
