“I wouldn't stay anywhere else.”

From the delicious healthy breakfast (including outstanding locally made French pastries) to the hosts themselves, you will not find a more friendly, comfortable, and convenient b&b in New Orleans. The rooms are situated around a small charming courtyard behind the main house. Shops and restaurants on Magazine St are 2 blocks in one direction; the St Charles streetcar is 2 block in the other. Perfect location for MG if you want to avoid the drunken insanity of the Quarter.

I've been to New Orleans about a dozen times and have stayed in B&Bs, hotels, and flats for rent. I loved the Chimes. The location, on a quiet street near the Garden District, was just right. A short walk to the action on Magazine Street and to the St. Charles Avenue streetcar. Jill is an unobtrusive but friendly host with a wealth of knowledge to share about the city. (And if you need a good mechanic, she can steer you there, too.) Friendly, inviting and comfortable place to stay. My wife stayed there on a separate trip and loved it, too. We liked it so much we booked two rooms for our son's graduation from Tulane.

Getting away from the French Quarter to stay at the Chimes is a great notion. Magazine Street shops and restaurants are charming--within an easy walk. Ditto the Garden District. Take the St. Charles St. street car into town and you have easy access to the Quarter, Frenchman Street, whatever you like. We were in two different bedrooms during our stay and loved them both. Huge beds, lovely appointments, beautiful garden and great breakfast that was healthy with lots of fruit and pastries--I think an almond croissant has life giving properties. Everything was well thought out and well executed. We loved it.

Bed: excellent. Breakfast: excellent. Hosts: wonderful. Their helpfulness: excellent. Other guests: friendly and interesting. Conversation at table: excellent. My point is, I've tried imagining what I'd do to improve the stay my husband and I just returned from and I can't honestly think of a thing. We have agreed that there's no reason to stay anywhere else when we go to N.O., which we do yearly.

The Chimes is one of a kind. It is intimate, romantic and real. Any guest will get to know and understand New Orleans, unlike at most other establishments, because of its unique Uptown location and the gracious advice and expertise of its owners and hosts. Staying there changed my whole perception of the city ( for the better). I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: Reserve way ahead. Rm 1 and 2 are very large and could accomodate more than 2 people.

The Chimes was recommended to us by a neighbor whose daughter lives in NOLA.. It turned out to be a great place to stay. The room was cozy, clean and the location was perfect for getting around the city on the street cars and buses. The breakfasts were outstanding and Jill was very helpful in giving us information and advice while we were there. It's a great place to stay and the neighborhood is safe, quiet and has one very good restaurants.

I have stayed at the Chimes several times, alone and with my husband, during high season (Mardi Gras) and during quieter times. Friends who have met us here can't believe what a gem it is. It is the perfect place to stay. Jill and Charles strike the right combination between helpful and accessible without being intrusive. The rooms are quite private, the breakfasts are lively, and the courtyard is lush. Easy walking distance to the streetcar stop, the bus, and the terrific shops and restaurants on Magazine. Jill always has great suggestions for new places to eat and for goings-on in the city. The rooms are impeccably maintained, which is not easy to do in an older home, and tastefully decorated. I'm always impressed by how many of their guests return, like us, over and over again. It is a real testament to them. We find the rates very reasonable, especially once you factor in the parking, wifi, and breakfast, all of which are included in the cost of the room.

Room Tip: Rooms have very different features (some have fireplaces, one has a loft, one is inside the main hou...
