Not sure why this place has mixed reviews on this site and I must say I was a bit worried before we arrived, but all the bad press was quickly washed away by the staff and the beauty of this place!
I booked directly with the hotel and got half off on the second and third night stay in one of the grand room suites across the street. The Soniat House is not in NYC or Napa or Chicago so don't come expecting such. This is the French Quarters at it's finest.
Our grand suite (room 60), had 2 rooms and two bathroom. It was furnished with period antiques. Paint was fresh and the bed comfortable. The bath towels were Frette and bath products upscale. You do feel spoiled.
Don't miss breakfast in the courtyard which was fresh, filling yet simple served in a tranquil and romantic oasis by the fountain. All my questions were quickly answered by the caring staff.
Location is away from the center of tourist action but close to the new area called Frenchmen Street, with it's many jazz and blues live music bars. It's and easy 5-10 minute "safe" walk. This is where locals go to hear live music and enjoy a cocktail, not fancy but righteous.More
