For our recent trip we chose this hotel due to its excellent location and good reviews. The location did not disappoint. This is the perfect spot to stay to explore the French Quarter and surrounding areas. It is an easy walk to Bourbon Street, the waterfront, restaurants, and shopping. Jackson Square serves as the front yard to this hotel. I would easily rate the location as excellent. Our room had three windows facing onto Chartres Street. There was a balcony outside our windows, but you could only access this from the main corridor. Our room was a nice size and adequately furnished. The bed linens were a good quality and comfortable. Now for the negatives: The carpet had visible long-term stains and wrinkles. The wallpaper clearly needed to be replaced. As noted in other reviews, outlets were not adequate/functional. The room needed a good top to bottom cleaning - when you clean the bathroom, close the door and clean behind it! The bathroom was in desperate need of an update. Seriously, what is with the louvered doors on the bathroom?!? Also, many other reviewers noted the helpful and friendly staff. We found the opposite during our stay. The staff we encountered were not outwardly rude, but they certainly were not outgoing and friendly. My final negative comment is regarding the breakfast. The coffee bar was fine, but the pastries were low quality and there was a limited fruit selection. Ok, back to positives: The location is great! The courtyard and pool area seemed well maintained and was very quiet and charming. There is a lot of street activity in this location, but the room was surprisingly quiet. We slept great! We loved the quirkiness of the collection of buildings and their New Orleans architectural features. Overall, I would definitely stay here again because of the location, but not if I planned to spend a lot of time in the room.

Great location and very friendly staff. Stayed 5 nights. We wanted a French Quarter experience - and got it. Everywhere we wanted to go was within an easy 10 minute walk. Never had long to wait for access to our car for the two times we needed it. Only suggestion would be to have a small refrigerator/microwave in the room.

The marquis light at the entrance is partially burnt-out and this tells you everything that you need to know about this hotel. There is more maintenance here than what is being kept up. The rooms have charm with ceiling-to-floor heavy draperies and valances and they’re generally clean although the bathtub shower, faucets and drain stopper were corroded basic ‘50’s type. Our room smelled strongly of marijuana at the onset. Staff laughed it off but it persisted throughout our stay. We weren’t offered a move. The staff never got directions and tourist details correct so we quit asking. The “free” wifi is famously inadequate but the electrical outlets are poor, too. Charger plugs fall out in the middle of the night. Very inconvenient for using GoogleMaps to get around. Luckily, the location was very good and the breakfast rolls were surprisingly tasty. And it was nice to have a newspaper. We stored our luggage with the bellhop and toured our last day without incident. The initial price was low but the rate jumped precipitously before the end of our five-day stay. There are better choices for the actual price paid. Next time, we’ll try the Cornstalk Inn or similar.

We were here for one night and had a satisfactory stay. The location across the street from the Presbytere was perfect for enjoying the French Quarter.

This is an old hotel with interconnected buildings. Finding your way around is a bit confusing at first, but it didn't take long for us to figure it out. There's a nice courtyard in the center. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Our room was comfortable and spacious, even though it had no window (a conscious choice we made to save a few dollars when we booked). The TV and wifi were good. The building may be old but the technology we needed wasn't. We only had three free power outlets in our room (none for USB) so charging all our phones and tablets required coordination, but it wasn't a big problem.

There were two things we did not like about our room. First, both beds were made up in a very peculiar manner. Instead of layers in the order of bottom sheet, top sheet, blanket, bedspread, our beds had bottom sheet, blanket, top sheet, bedspread. We had to choose between pulling it all apart and remaking the beds ourselves, or sleeping between the bottom sheet and blanket. We travel a lot and we have never had this problem before.

The second thing was that the bathroom was very small and cramped, with the toilet uncomfortably close to the wall and toilet paper dispensers. The bathroom also lacks a solid wooden door, and instead has a door with slanted wooden slats with gaps between them, compromising privacy.

Overall, this was a good hotel in a good location and we would consider staying here again.

Place D’Armes is a beautiful, authentic French Quarter hotel located in the heart of everything. Steps from Jackson Square, the French Market, Bourbon Street and so much more. Our room overlooked the courtyard which was such a peaceful oasis after a day of shopping and sightseeing. I would recommend Place D’Armes to couples, families, just about anyone seeking a unique and historic New Orleans experience.
