Sweet little courtyard hotel tucked just off of Jackson Square. Great location, small lobby because the hotel is built around the courtyard and pool. Old school charm. Loved having my morning coffee sitting in the courtyard. There are several, so you can find a quite spot. The pool was refreshing after a hot morning in the French Market. The church bells did wake me, as it's only half a block away.

Room Tip: Courtyard and ground floor were the best.

First of all, this is not a chain, modern hotel. This building is nearly as old as the quarter and once was a boys school - hence its charming characteristics and quirks. The staff we dealt with were all very professional and friendly.

It's right off Jackson Square, in the heart of the quarter. If you stand outside the front door, you can see Cafe DuMonde. But it's also far enough off of Bourbon Street to provide you with quiet when you want it.

We stayed in Room 211 which provided us with a nice private balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. We had two french doors that led out to the balcony. Because of all the trees and foliage, there was still plenty of privacy. Our room had a separate sitting area from the bedroom. We were there 4 nights and never felt cramped. There were 2 TVs. There was a wet bar in the sitting room, along with a refrigerator and a microwave. At night it was quiet. Occasionally people would sit out by the pool and smoke and talk, but I never once smelled cigarette smoke and I'm very sensitive to it, so I wouldn't let that bother you.

The only real negatives? The bathroom was on the small side. The plumbing and bathroom fixtures are old, but it's a very old building and should not come as a surprise to anyone who prefers the charm of older buildings with character. However, the water pressure was good. The furniture was a bit on the tired side, but somehow it went with the character of the older building. Maybe if there was new furniture, it wouldn't have fit in so well? The bed was extremely comfortable though. Our room was not accessible by elevator, but the bell captain will carry your bags for you if this is a problem. There are elevator-accessible rooms if you need one. The hotel does offer "breakfast." It is store-bought pastries, fresh fruit, coffee. We only ate it on one day, since we prefer indulging in the Quarter's famous brunches. There's a grocery store up on Royal street, just a block or so away. You could stock your fridge with yogurt and other stuff and supplement it with the hotel's free breakfast if you wanted to. If a "free" full breakfast is important to you, then pay more and stay somewhere else.

I love the ambience of the older buildings. I loved swimming in the pool after a hot sticky day in the quarter, shaded by ancient trees and brick and statuary. Then retiring to my air-conditioned room with ceiling fans and changing into something for the evening, contemplating what cocktail I might be having for dinner.

I would happily stay here again. The rooms are affordable and the location is central to everything!

Room Tip: Select a balcony room in the back if you prefer quiet. Select a room in the main building if you nee...

First we very much enjoyed the hotel. We chose it for the location and price. The garage is just before the hotel so if you use the hotel parking (Well worth the extra cost) pull into the garage. Do not pull up to the front door or you will be circling the block (like me). We stayed for 3 days and never had to get the car. You wont find a better location in the French Quarter, 1/2 a block to Jackson Square, 1 1/2 blocks to Bourbon St., we walked everywhere including the aquarium, Harrahs casino, French Market and all the restaurants (we are in our late 40's and my wife is recovering from chemo treatments). Easy access to the street cars and buses. The staff was very helpful with anything we needed. We had a room with no windows, which we didn't mind, since we spent maybe 1 hour a day in it besides sleeping. The room and bathroom were clean.
About the only negative was the continental breakfast was bad, stale pastries and bad coffee.
Our next trip to New Orleans we are staying here again and recommend it to any one headed there.

Charming historic hotel two blocks from Jackson Square and 4 blocks from Bourbon Street. Enter the foyer and go back in time, making Place d'Armes a perfect place to begin your New Orleans adventure. The hotel staff very professional and friendly. We had a 3rd floor balcony room on St Ann Street, perfect for enjoying the sounds of street bands on Jackson Square. Watch out for step down going to balcony !! Room adjacent to elevator was no problem. Comfortable beds. Compact facilities. Courtyard very nice. Continental breakfast great for early risers. I'll stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 301 with a great balcony and great a/c !!!

We were told about this hotel by friends, and we were extremely happy with our stay. The location is excellent to all we wanted to experience in New Orleans. Close to Bourbon Street but away from the noise. Close to music venues also.

The hotel was in the perfect location. Close enough to Jackson Square to here the street music without the Bourbon Street crowd noise. The room was comfortable with a very nice balcony. The bell hop was very helpful, even though the front desk personnel were not very friendly. We never made it to breakfast because who wakes up before 10AM on their honeymoon? But Cafe du Monde is a quick walk and always open with cafe au lait and beignets. Couldn't have asked for a nicer stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a balcony. Some rooms have no windows and the courtyard rooms seem li...

Had a wonderful stay here mid-May with my young adult niece. Great location near Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde, great restaurants and shopping. Loved the courtyard room with table and chairs on the balony that overlooked the fountain and pool. Quiet and charming -- would definitely stay there again. Within walking distance of everywhere you want to go in the FQ.

Room Tip: Courtyard room avoids the claustrophobia that can happen with smallish rooms.
