“Fabulous in the French Quarter”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We always stay at the Place d'Armes when we come to New Orleans (3 times and counting) - it is a great location, as everyone mentioned - right in the middle of everything, but always quiet and peaceful. It has quite a bit of character and the best courtyard. Everyone is very friendly. The breakfast is continental, but the coffee is good, and the pastries are better then you would expect.

The shower in this last room we had could use an update, but everything is always very clean, with nothing to complain about. We will be back!

This quiet, charming, boutique hotel in the French Quarter was a surprise. The staff was extremely accommodating: calling for a taxi, providing a map and directions, recommending a local place to eat and even loaning me a book when I accidentally left mine at the conference. The rooms, while a bit "old fashioned" are certainly comfortable. The lighting is a bit dim (my complaint at all hotels) and there isn't a flat screen TV, bar or fitness cetner, but the wireless network allowed me to work and there was plenty of hot water for the shower (though you need to let it run for a minute first.) The breakfast is truly only continental: fruit, pastries, coffee and OJ. As everyone else has attested, the courtyard is lovely and you couldn't ask for a better located hotel.

I love this hotel!! It's such a quaint little place in a perfect location right off Jackson Square. It's very close to Bourbon Street and also to the French Market. There are great little shops right around the hotel as well just down the block.

I love the courtyard! We hang out every morning drinking coffee and just talking. We go to NOLA for a fun girl's trip each year, and we never really have a schedule so having the courtyard to hang out in is nice.

The staff are great and always so accommodating and helpful!

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

My husband and I (along with another couple) stayed at the Place d'Armes for a recent 3-night stay. We had a fabulous experience at the hotel and throughout New Orleans. The hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel room was lovely and quaint. The courtyard is a wonderful place to spend some time as well. The location, near Jackson Square, couldn't be beat as it was within walking to distance to everything in the French Quarter and beyond! We all made a promise to return to this hotel again in the near future.

Room Tip: We chose a room overlooking the courtyard which was quiet and lovely.

Right in the heart of the French Quarter without the noise of Bourbon Street, this hotel is charming and was exactly what we'd hoped for when we booked in for our 4 day stopover in N'awlins. In barely 30 seconds you are on Jackson Square and just a 5 minute walk south of Bourbon so ideal for exploring the French Quarter at a reasonable price.

1. Service was excellent-bellboys are friendly and speedy as they whisk your bags up to your rooms.

2. Breakfast included and was small but sufficient, served in an airy and light sun room.

3. Stone courtyard area was beautiful (wish we'd been there when it was a little warmer) with a great looking pool and areas to kick back and relax.

4. We plumped for a cheaper- non balcony- room which was large and had a lovely old, quaint feel to it. The lack of windows was a bit weird to begin with but we got used to it and realised it's quite common in the FQ and so were we to go again, would probably plump for the balcony room as I prefer to have some natural light coming in. However on a budget, the room was sufficiently large to not feel boxed in without the light from a window. Bathroom was very small (just the toilet and bath with the sink outside in a "dressing table" area) but clean and served its function.

Only downside really....the walls are very thin. Our neighbour's coughing fits were like he was in the same room. Ear plugs were a godsend.

All in all, ideal FQ hotel, with picture-perfect charm and character. AND still at a reasonable price for it's couldn't-be-better location

Room Tip: Spend a little more and get a balcony room!

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel for our last three trips to Jazz Fest. It is charming and has a very mellow and laid back feel. The courtyard is beautiful with many little tables such for relaxing after a long day at the festival, enjoying a beverage and the warm southern nights and anticipating an excellent dinner. The pool can be great when the weather gets too sticky. The staff is knowledgable and helpful and the location simply can't be beat (assuming you desire to stay in the Quarter). This is why we return to this hotel every year and plan to do so for years to come. We have stayed in Three different rooms and they do vary substantially from one another, some with larger bathrooms or beds, others with sitting areas etc. The Courtyard rooms are great and the ones in the back part of the property feel very "hidden" and are quiet. The rooms that face St. Ann's (with balcony/upsatirs from the front desk) have larger bathrooms than the courtyard rooms. The continental breakfast is great with yummy coffee and baked goods to help start your day.

I travel to New Orleans at least once a year. I've stayed at other nice hotels there, but for years I have only stayed at the Place d Armes. The hotel is a group of historic buildings that surround a beautiful courtyard. The rooms have exposed brick, some have high ceilings and furnishings with the old French Quarter charm. The location is perfect-just steps from Jackson Square and Cathedral. The French quarter is full of charming historic hotels and courtyards, but I think Place d
Arme's best asset is the staff. Lyn, the manager is the best. The staff have always been courteous and helpful. What can I say? I wish I was there right now.
