“Perfect Honeymoon Experience!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2011

We stayed at the Place d'armes hotel for our honeymoon on june 5-11th. We couldnt have imagined a better experience The location is absolutely perfect, right next to Jackson Square, a block away from cafe de monde and about two blocks from bourban street. It was also about a block to the mississippi river. and maybe two blocks to Jax Brewery (we loved the gumbo pot restaurant & the marie laveau bar) We also walked the 10 blocks or so to Frenchman st. but we didnt see what all the fuss was about. oh and I was a bit concerned being two blocks from bourban, but it was no big deal and was actually nice to be an extra block away from the craziness! It really is within walking distance to everything, just remember to wear comfy shoes bc your feet will hurt by the end of the week!! The courtyard was absolutely gorgeous and the pool was much bigger than it seemed in the photos!! It was so nice to be able to come back after a night of partying and jump in the pool. They had signs up saying the pool closed at a certain time, but we would be in it until all hours of the night with other people who had the same idea and not once did any of the staff comment. (but we werent being loud or obnoxious or anything, which probably helped) Oh and this isnt a hotel of a certain age (ie young people partying, older people, families) there really was a healthy mix of everyone. We are in our mid twenties and came across people to hang out with but there was a healthy mix of age groups and not too many kids or people partying. We had an interior room on the third floor, which was really nice. The only complaint is that we would sleep much later than normal due to not having windows and not realizing it was daytime lol normally i will wake up when it gets bright regardless of a hangover! I think next time we'll get a courtyard room, so we can have immediate access to the pool and can go out to smoke whenever, instead of going down the elevater and outside which was a pain. All in all, this was a great hotel and a great experience. We are already planning our next trip back and we will definately be coming back to the Place D'armes for all of our anniversaries and a Mardi Gras or two in the future :)

This hotel is the finest place by far to stay. The service and hospitallity were the best we have experienced. Dianne gave us such good advise on restaurants and excursions. Stewart and Chris were there to help you with anything you needed to make your stay fun and relaxing.
The room was vey clean and confortable. You are in the heart of the French Quarter and walking distance to everythng. We will certainly stay there again.

Our room was large, airy and very comfortable. The staff went out of their way to be helpful in suggesting restaurants and clubs (just don't try and walk to Frenchman's Street). The location can't be beat - right next door to St. Louis Square and half a block from Cafe Du Monde - and 2 blocks from Bourbon if you care (I don't) but it was far enough away that we didn't have any issues with loud music or loud drunks.

Hotel has a small pool and beautiful interior courtyard.

We'll definitely go back!

Room Tip: ask for an inside courtroom facing room for quiet

We had two rooms booked for our party over 4 nights. Due to room complaints and booking conflicts we ended up seeing inside 5 different rooms, which gave us quite a good insight into this hotel. The major problem with this hotel I think is that the rooms are so variable. The first room we had was musty and dated in it's interiors. We didn't have a good impression. However, for our second night we were moved into the main building and had a great room i.e no mould smells, modern fit out, no noise etc. Same price, just luck of the draw. My brother ended up in a room withno windows that had a terrible odour from which we demanded he was moved from. Again, his room became better. This inconsistency is what really let's the hotel down as otherwise the hotel is satisfactory. Location is fantastic - you can roll out the door to Jackson Square. There is a good laundry service, no room service though. And our experience at the desk was variable - some staff were extremely hospitable, others were poor and unhelpful.

My wife and I stayed at the Place d’Armes Hotel on June 9-13. This was our first visit to New Orleans and we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Based on other reviews from TripAdvisor we selected the Place d'Armes Hotel. We were very pleased with the room (#229) selected for us with a balcony overlooking the street below. The staff was very cordial and helpful regarding suggestions for dining, ground transportation, etc. An especially nice touch was a knock on our door as we were unpacking and delivery of a bottle of iced champagne to help us celebrate our special occasion. I believe Lenny Labrousse was working behind the scenes to arrange the special room and champagne delivery.

The courtyard with swimming pool and gardens was nice to return to in the evening.

The central location to the French Quarter, Jackson Square and the Cajun Zydeco Festival was perfect.

Looking forward to a second trip in the future.

Room Tip: Street side room can be noisy with revelers.

If you want to be in the middle of the action, this French Quarter location cannot be better. You are close to everything but far away enough from Bourbon to get decent sleep. Why decent sleep? Because the hotel is housed in historical buildings with old furnishings. Expect an old mattress and poor sheets and a floor that slants heavily. This means you will actually slide off the bed if you are not careful when rolling around! If you set your expectations properly, as in don't expect a "Heavenly Bed", you will have a grand time.

Also, don't bring a car. It will cost you $25 a night to park it and you really don't need it.

This hotel was a great choice. It's in a terrific position; close to everything, without your stay being spoiled by excess noise. The room we had was small but was furnished beautifully and was spotless. It overlooked the internal terraced garden and pool which were shaded by two really old and beautiful magnolia trees and was a great spot to just chill out while we planned our next days activities. The breakfast was fairly basic; danishes, croissants, tea coffee and cereal, but was pretty much on a par with other hotels we'd stayed in whilst in the US. (They don't have toast or raisin bread fellow aussies, or tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, here or at most Americal hotels. We were fore-warned and took a one litre jug with us and our own tea-bags!) The lady who was managing the restaurant was very helpful and friendly too.

I loved the ambience of the hotel. It's very old and has a great history and having somewhere to relax other than your room was a definite bonus.

I reccommend the paddle steamer cruise. It was fantastic with a great jazz band on board, plenty of places to sit and listen to the tour guide provide the history of what we were passing and a magnificent sunset.

A tour of the Oak Ave plantation, which is an hour and a half out of New Orleans by bus, is worth the effort. It's an amazing place and makes you feel your in the middle of Gone With The Wind!

Bourbon street is brassy and bawdy with so many bars and restaurants to eat, drink and be entertained in, you'd need a month to visit them all. Frenchman Street, at the end of Bourbon had less people but the quality of the band and the sound was much better.

The Katrina Museum, situated in the cathedral and opposite the hotel is definitely worth a visit, as is Cafe del Mar, about 100 metres from the hotel. (apparently you haven't really been to New Orleans if you haven't had icing sugar all over your face from the famous donuts!) The frozen yoghurt shop is also a definite must, 15 flavours and you serve as much of each or just one, as you like. Cheap way to keep cool and it's delicious.

There are heaps of clothes stores but one of the best is 'Jackies' which is about two minutes walk from the hotel, in the same street. Beautiful clothing and wonderful fabrics at really cheap prices.

We had an absolute ball and will go back again one day and would definitely stay in this hotel again.
