“Great hotel for New Orleans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

I would recommend this hotel for:
1. LOCATION. Right on Canal Street, just a couple short blocks to Bourbon and French Quarters.
2. ROOM COMFORT. I had a corner, high floor room, which I would recommend. It was quiet, except for other guests closing their doors (some people don't have the courtesy to hold on to the door so it closes quietly, rather than slamming). AC was very cold, but we preferred it cooler than too warm.
3. GYM. Well equipped hotel gym with free weights, variety of machines, a cable unit, and high quality treadmills, bikes and ellipticals. Gym is open 24 hours with room key and provides towels. I didn't use the pool, but looked decent (on the smaller side).
4. EXECUTIVE LOUNGE. Definitely a benefit if you have Marriott status. I enjoyed the morning breakfasts. I didn't use the "happy hour", but I was very surprised about the "honor bar", where alcoholic drinks are chargeable. Since the majority of my JW Marriott hotel stays are in SE Asia, where the Executive Lounges are fantastic, maybe this is normal in the mainland for JWs. Nonetheless, we were surprised.

Overall, I would consider this hotel very good and would recommend it for business, couple or family travels. Great location and JW standards make it a good choice for New Orleans.

Dear EB808,

Thank you for your strong recommendation. We couldn't agree more that we are an excellent choice for business travel, romantic getaways and family trips. It's fantastic that you enjoyed our hotel's comfortable rooms, well-equipped gym, and beautiful Executive Lounge. The JW is indeed very well-located in downtown New Orleans, where our guests enjoy streetcar trips, amazing dining destinations like Le Foret and Tableau, and sightseeing adventures on the CitySightseeing Tour that stops directly in front of our hotel. We appreciate your loyalty to Marriott and hope you'll stay with us again on your next trip to New Orleans.

Sincerely,

Ted Selogie

Stayed in many Marriot hotels before but 1st time here. Hotel is located at city centre, about an hour taxi ride from the airport that cost $33. Check-in process is OK. Room is well appointed with comfy bed and flat screen tv with cable channels. Internet connection is chargeable. Connection speed is decent. There are a number of restaurants available in the vicinity. So, food is not an issue. The main plus point of this hotel is the location, at this time of the year. The street behind the hotel is part of Mardi Gras parade. I get the chance to experience the renowned Mardi Gras with just short walk from the hotel. Check-out process is seamless. The hotel provided a bill the evening before departure. If you do not dispute any items and do not consume anything from mini bar late, then the amount will be charged to the credit card automatically so you don’t have to queue to check-out. Overall, it has been a peaceful stay, which is good.

Room Tip: Room at higher floor should offer better view.

Dear SSK77,

We are thrilled to hear that you had such an exceptional experience with us during your stay in New Orleans. We are indeed extremely well-located near the famous French Quarter and our guests enjoy seeing the floats pass by our hotel during several of the largest Mardi Gras parades, where they can catch beads and admire the floats. It is an honor to have hosted you for your very first Mardi Gras experience and we hope you'll join us again for Mardi Gras 2015.

Sincerely,

Stayed here 7/23-7/26. Great location just on the outskirts of the french quarter. The room key continued to malfunction. I had to switch keys 4 times in two days before they realized that the lock was broken. My wife and I were given a voucher for a meal at the restaurant in the hotel, the Canal Street Grill. However, there was only one server. Although only three tables were occupied our waiter never approached our table. The hostess had to take our order. It took 20 minutes for a soup and salad to come out. My wife's pasta with mushroom entree did not have mushrooms. Very slow service and a lack of quality food.

Every year I take my grandsons for a few days in the City of New Orleans because there is so much for them to see. I like Marriott because the trolley is right in front of the hotel even though all but City Park is within a moments walk. The hotel is awesome clean and they have a huge kiddie pool. The staff knocks you over to serve you and i would love to bring that bed home with me. If you want fast food get Krystals to deliver becaise the McDonalds on the next block is filthy. High traffic area bit very quoet. 12 Cab ride to train station. 40 to park there. If you are there on Sunday they have an awesome brunch.

I stay at J W Marriott when I can. What Marriott bills as affordable luxury is right on. To me these hotels are near Ritz Carlton level in rooms, amenities, and service. This particular one meets the standards. In addition, for those who use the Executive Lounge, this hotel really shines. A wonderful morning breakfast - bacon, sausage, eggs, excellent oatmeal, and pastries - is overseen by the lovely Pauline. The location is excellent with access to the French Quarter - without the hassle and noise of being in it - and the Central Business District. Recommended.

Room Tip: I would request a high floor to be further away from the French Quarter noise.

Stayed at the JW Marriott for 4 nights. Check-in was hectic due to a large convention of some sort checking out. Hotel was unable to find my prepaid reservation and was back and forth on the phone with travel agent and JW for about 40 minutes. Finally got it worked out. Jacqueline (managers assistant) was very apologetic and took care of our parking. Had lunch at the Canal street grill on the last day, and wish I had eaten here earlier during my stay. Food was reasonable, service was good. Our server made sure to inform the chefs of my sisters food allergies. A few snafus here and there but my stay overall was good. I have come to realize that the service workers in NOLA are just rude in general, but its ok I wont hold it against you. Will most definetly visit again. Housekeeping staff was the best.

After driving seven plus hours from Atlanta to New Orleans through severe thunderstorms, what my mom and I needed most once we arrived was a good drink. We found our savior George at the JW Marriott bar that night, and our stay quickly became 100x better. He made us all the classic New Orleans cocktails, and even made me a new drink free of charge when I tried (and ultimately disliked) the classic Sazerac. In addition, he provided us with recommendations for delicious local restaurants, the best walking tour companies, and even encouraged us to go to the oldest bar in America, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop & Bar (bonus: it's haunted!). If I haven't convinced you to visit the JW Marriott and George yet, check out the attached picture ... with a visit you may be lucky enough for him to take a selfie on your own phone!

Dear Stephanie,

Thank you for the time you took to share your experience with us. George receives many compliments but this may be the first time a guest has sent us his smiling picture! This is a fabulous example of how excellent service and a well-crafted cocktail can truly make our guests' stay memorable. We would be honored to host you and your mother any time at the JW Marriott New Orleans.
