We were here on a short holiday over Easter. While the hotel looks a bit dismal from the outside, inside is excellent and our room was very good (though a bit oddly layed out).
The hotel is on Canal Street adjacent to the French Quarter and the business district and around the corner from the St Charles street car line to the Garden District. Teh driving entrance and recpetion are on Common Street behind it. It was great to be so close to all the action but justs on the outskirts.
Service was top notch - the concierges were very knowledgeable and really provided excellent advice on sites and restaurants. The bell hops are fantastic and seem to be having a lot of fun and keep the energy level high.
Fantastsic gym with a small outdoor pool on an upper floor - excellent. The layout of the lobby from Canal Street through to the reception is a long strange layout and the bar was beyond freezing cold to the point we could not sit in it. The concierge lounge was good, not great, but on an upper floor with a great view. we did not eat at the restaurants - there are so many excellent restaurants in this city to try.
Hotel is in good but not great condition. Nice newish furniture.
For breakfast, walk a block or so south east (toward the Mississippi) down Common Street to Ruby Slipper - very cool, good food.
Garden District was awesome - particularly on Magazine Street.
