The JW Marriott in New Orleans is in an excellent location for walking to most of the main areas and attractions. The room was a good size but the bathroom was very small. Also, the water temperature was very inconsistent and would often get very hot and then cold. It took twice as long to take a shower since I spent most of the time trying to adjust the temperature of the water. For what they charge for the rooms, don't think internet access should be $15/day.
Every employee we came in contact with was very courteous and helpful.

I had always thought the JW Marriott brand represented the top of the line. Not so in this hotel. The hotel is new, modern and in a great location however that is where the compliments stop. The lobby staff was sparse and cool upon arriving and the bell man was in a big rush. The corner room provided a nice view, high up, but was cramped. You had to go single file through the hallway/closet area to get to the average bath. No vent in the bath by the way. WiFi was $14.95 per day if you can believe that but you could walk out on canal street and get free wi-fi all over the place. There was a desk but no pens or pencils and a dinky little note pad. The restaurant is a Shula's and offers good food but poor service. Their highlight, even with reservations is the "fake wait" where you must wait ten minutes to be seated even though the restaurant is only 1/4 full. Won't stay there again.

Room Tip: Don't get a corner room

I'm a frequent business traveler and had high hopes for a luxurious stay at a JW property. While I certainly wasn't disappointed, I also wasn't wowed by this property either. The location of the hotel was great, easy walk to the French Quarter, Aquarium, street car line, etc. If you haven't been to New Orleans before, this doesn't make the JW particularly special, as there were multiple Marriott brands within sight of the JW and many other hotels to pick from as well, all with similarly convenient locations. We went mid-week in mid-December, so we got an amazing deal and a room upgrade for being rewards members. Room was nice, nothing more or less than any standard Marriott though. Bathroom was small but clean, met my expectations for an older urban hotel. We didn't try the restaurant, but there is a comfortable lounge/bar area where we had drinks before dinner one night. Drink prices were steep and service was a little slow, but was in line with my expectations of a hotel lobby bar.

A couple of minor downsides: the entrance off Canal street is small and easy to miss at first, and you walk through a long mall-like hallway and miss the nice lobby which is more on the back side of the hotel. We tried finding the business center, and got conflicting information from hotel employees. We ended up at the front desk where there are two computers for guest use off to the side. My husband needed to conduct some business email, and there weren't chairs or anything for him to use. So if you need an actual business center, maybe call ahead and confirm if there is one. There are signs for it, but all we found were conference rooms. Again, not a huge deal because we were there for vacation (and hence why we didn't bring our laptops and ended up needing the business center!).

We had a higher floor 'city view' room, which sounded nice when they offered it to us, but New Orleans isn't exactly a towering city, so we got to see the unkempt rooftops of the surrounding buildings. Some fan on one of the buildings whirred to life sporadically throughout the day and night, which I originally thought was a train going by. I'm not a light sleeper at all, so it didn't bother my sleep much, but could have been an issue for someone who wakes up easily. Likely could be remedied by having a room on another side of the property.

Bottom line, if you get a good deal it's a nice property, but if you're paying full JW prices, you might feel underwhelmed.

Dear JPurvisKC,

Thank you for writing such a thoughtful, thorough review of your time at the JW Marriott
New Orleans. As you noted, there are many lodging choices around the French Quarter
area, so we appreciate your choice to stay with us. Though we are pleased to hear
that you enjoyed your rate and upgrade, we regret to learn of the various shortcomings
you encountered. We’re always happy to help guests navigate the hotel as well as
surrounding areas. I sincerely apologize for the conflicting messages you received
from our staff regarding the business center. Finally, should you encounter any sort of
unwanted noise during your stay, simply contact the front desk. We’re committed to your
comfort, and would be happy to help find you a room that better suits your needs. We
hope to see you again and show you what a New Orleans getaway is really all about.

Sincerely,

There are three marriotts with in a few blocks of each other and this one is very good. It is only a block from the main area, so you are close enough to walk everywhere. The staff was also very courteous. There is a nice bar and restraunt attached. There is also a jazz club in the lobby if you are interested. I will stay here again.

Really liked this hotel on the edge of the quarter - nice to get out of it for awhile. We were there for a sporting event and it was an easy walk to dome. The room didn't quite live up to what I would expect. No minibar /fridge and walls were thin. Heard lots of partying noise late. The concierge room was nice - heavy night appetizers that we made dinner and breakfast was nice. Valet parking took a long time. Call plenty early. Would stay again as overall it served its purpose.
