“Great stay. No bed bug in my room.”
Reviewed April 4, 2011

I booked this hotel with Priceline and I got a good deal. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Previous reviews indicated the possible presence of bed bugs and I was worried I checked my mattress thoroughly and it was clear. Room 1706 had no bed bugs. It was a pleasant stay and I was happy.

Stayed here three days on business. Super easy check in and nice front desk people.
Staff overall was very friendly and helpful throughout the stay.

On 25th floor corner (there are a lot of corners) and access to concierge level on 27 (there a lot of ppl who had access). Overall, hotel had a crowded feel.

Hotel is nice rooms were good sized for NOLA, but could use some updating (namely carpeting). Furnishings and bath were good quality. Views even from high floor were obstructed but you could kind of see the Gulf. Can't Marriott corp figure out a way to build a hotel where I can't here the guy in the next room singing "I want to sex you up" ???! Normal conversation was audible from adjoining room.

We had lots of problems with internet connectivity on levels where it was available. Free internet access at this hotel is totally unreliable as in we had problems every day.

Overall, good value for $ especially with concierge access. Food nothing to write home about but server was nice.

We ate at Shula's for lunch, pricey but good!

I would recommend the hotel with caveat that Mr. JWM needs to put this place on his to do list on 2011.

When booking our stay at New Orleans, I thought a Marriott would be a safe choice.

This hotel is extraordinarily overpriced for what it is: the rooms are worn & run down; the bed is at least 10 years old, you can feel the springs in your back; the wired internet which costs $14.99/24 hours only works on 1 side of the hotel and it is slower than dial-up speed; has no room service between 11pm-6am; the direct tv selection is poor & limited; concierge refers you to sketchy tour groups.

Overall, NOLA was a massive disappointment for us. Soon as you get on the shuttle from the airport, you are taken through projects and people sleeping under overpasses - this sets the tone for your stay. There is rubbish in the street; constant smell of raw sewerage; sidewalks are shattered; can't walk around at night without feeling unsafe and almost every server, tour guide, information counter hates their job and hates tourists.

Oh and had to request a fridge & extra pillows because they ignored my internet request for them.

The only positive is the National WW2 Museum. This is excellent and the only reason to go to NOLA.

What a perfect location! And every provider was awesome EXCEPT I always got the same server in the lounge area and she was always grumpy (three days in a row). I will also say, don't eat in the hotel restaurant (MUCH better restaurants within a 1-2 minute walk)(but room service was FABULOUS) By chance I was there the week before Mardi Gras, so LOTS of activity. Took a little to get used to the elevators but all in all a great stay, highly recommend.

If you like the basic glitz of the JW brand, this is for you. I prefer the Courtyards, but the courtyard around the corner got some bad reviews (here and elsewhere). Anyway, the JW is fine, fancy wood instead of wallpaper, chandeliers and art in the lobby, all tile in the bathrooms, etc. location is across the street from Bourbon street, on the streetcar line and convenient to most of the other CBD attractions.

This was our second trip to New Orleans and we stayed at this hotel both times.
the first time it was just my husband and I and it was a great couples getaway. This time we brought the kids. It is perfectly situated on canal st. right across from the french qtr. You can walk easily to the waterfront, aquarium, french qtr, and french market. Right outside the door you can hop on the cable car and go to the other popular areas, such as the garden district. The concierge was very helpful with finding things to do and make suggestions. The pool is small and it has no hot tub, which would have been nice after a long day of walking. But, the kids enjoyed the pool. Parking is expensive, but it is great to not have to worry about driving where you want to go and know that your car is safe. I would recommend this hotel to anyone new to New Orleans. One thing to know that is helpful - as you approach the hotel on canal st, drive past the hotel, and turn rt on magazine st and then rt on commons to the Marriott parking in the back, where you can drop off your car and check in.
One other thing - the bathrooms are quite small. This made it a challenge with 4 people.

We checked into J.W Marriott Hotel on Canal Street on March 12th, First of all the hotel main entrance is located inside a small alley or backstreet, you can only valet park your car at this hotel for 35 dollars, Valet was very courteous, offered luggage assitance and introduced himself to me (Kevin or Keith), check in was very smooth, once we went up to the room, i called guest services department and asked for a mouthwash and a razor, I was really shocked by the rudeness of the agent as if i had asked for a million dollars worth of stuff, after 15 mins i was recieved an apology over the phone for not having the mouthwash but razor came in after sometime and i did recieve a call promptly after that to ensure i had recieved my items. The hotel restaurants is beautiful, i did not eat there but i looked very beautiful, the hotel is very beautiful and they have great bathroom amenities but service lacks, the hotel employees dont seem to empathize or atleast say they apologize even when they make mistakes.
Next day upon check out, i lost my cool.. I waited very patiently for my car after 40 mins and almost missing on a friends wedding, i went to front desk to have my valet comp because i could have parked somewhere else, i went inside and spoke to Tamaryn who came out to the valet stand and spoke to the gentleman, i understand it is busy but to wait for your car for 40 minutes is a long time. another thing that pissed me off was when the front desk agent told me that we cannot reverse the charges for valet because its a third party. No that is not true - You (JW Marriott) has contracted the valet services for your hotel, you can charge my credit card for valet, but cannot reverse the charge or not even take responsibility for it, I am so sorry but they wanted to argue with me over it. I simple had to tell them that i dont want to argue but you need to take care of the valet charges. The hotel is very beautiful but the staff needs to get their act straight and work as a team instead of pointing fingers at eachother, and trying to aruge with the guest.

to summarize this all, beautiful property, beautiful view from the rooms but Front desk staff needs to look up from their computer screens and smile, they need to have a little better attitude, and having nice property doesnt mean they can have an attitude with the guest but understand that it ruins the whole stay and it makes the hotel property look ugly.
