“Really nice older hotel”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

So, if you can stomach being all of 50 feet from the French Quarter, but not technically in the Quarter, this place is great. Good gym. Not huge, but never busy. Several good restaurants. Excellent bar. The rooms were spacious. The lobby is nice. All around good choice.

Room Tip: The 2-room suites are excellent.

I stayed here recently for a conference, it was one of the official hotels. The conference rate of $350/night seemed excessive. I didn't realize until arrival that the Roosevelt is a Waldorf Astoria property. It's definitely a classy hotel, old but renovated not in a modern way but a classic way. My room ended up being a suite. It included a powder room, a sitting room with work desk and flat screen tv, a bedroom with king bed and another tv, and finally a full bath with 3-headed shower. The room appointments were very posh. Robe, slippers, high end toiletries, very nice bedding. Internet access was included with the rate - but it would have been another $15-$28/night otherwise depending on performance level. That's kinda ridiculous. And it reflects my main complaint which is the cost of staying here. Yes, it's very nice, but $350 nice? Not sure. Plus the add-ons really add up. Care to enjoy the [rather limited] breakfast buffet? $27 more. And $5 more for OJ to wash it down. If money is no object, then it doesn't matter. Some minor nits about the room: bathroom and closet doors seem to be crooked on their hinges as they won't stay open. Other guests I talked to reported the same thing in their rooms. I don't think it's by design, but probably a reflection of the age of the property. The air system in my room would only drop down to 68 degrees. I personally like to sleep at a cooler temperature and for all the other excesses at the Roosevelt, it seemed silly to throttle the thermostat. The mattress wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. One side was significantly more crished than the other. Finally, the tv remote in the bedroom didn't work. Probably just a battery issue.

If you want to be a couple of minutes' walk from the French Quarter and other attractions without being in the heart of the tourist action, this charming historic hotel is the place to be. Our suite was spacious and comfortable, furnished with nouveau antiques and very clean and quiet. We liked being across Canal Street from the French Quarter. The lobby, especially during the holidays, is a tourist attraction in itself. Also convenient to the ferry docks, mall, and aquarium, it is centrally located but a little quieter than other historic hotels I have stayed in in the area.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights for a wedding. The service was excellent, the room was very nice and we really enjoyed the location. It is just outside the French Quarter, just a few blocks walk. We enjoyed having a drink in the Sazerac Bar and the concierge was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. We would definitely stay again.

I've stayed at this hotel twice while in New Orleans. The hotel is beautiful and nicely re-done. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only drawback is the freedom in which non-guests can access the elevators and floors. I was staying with my teenage daughter when a man emerged from the bar, joined us in the elevator and proceeded to make small talk. He didn't select a floor and tried to get off when we did. We got back on the elevator and the man tried to do the same but wasn't fast enough. The hotel has very little security in a rowdy and often shady city. Also, the bathrooms have an awkward set up. Tip...always request a room with an outside view.

Room Tip: select a room with an outside view otherwise you might be looking at the roof.

We just returned after a long weekend from New Orleans staying at the Roosevelt Waldorf Astoria. The location is about 2 blocks away from the French Quarter which was nice in my opinion, it is across Canal St , so if you're looking to be in the Quarter this hotel is not for you. We didn't spend much time at the hotel itself, so I can't really give any reviews of the restaurants or bar. The room accommodations were very nice, the room was clean as well as the bathroom. Turn down service with chocolates is always good in my book. The roof top pool and hot tub area was very nice, although we never caught the bar open there but it was on the cooler side.

Room Tip: We had the deluxe king room , it was small but very clean.

A divine hotel. The best staff; the best bar; the best location; the best bed! Special kudos to bellman Frederick and minibar attendant Elizza and concierge Barry and especially concierge Don Starr, who took care of us as if we were family. You can't do better than this.

Room Tip: Corner suites in the old building (the 2-29 line) are comfy, quiet and offer a glimpse of the river
