“A Historic Hotel, but the rooms are overrated”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

This hotel is a part of the Waldorf Astoria Hotels, which is the top tier of the Hilton Chain. The lobby area has been redone and is quite pleasant to look at.
I have a problem with the rooms. The first room my wife and I were assigned to was extremely small, We could hardly move around. They put us in what they called an executive room next, This room was larger and contained a seating area.
the bed was large and comfortable and we slept well.
I was part of a large group and was not able to do much in the way of expoloring the immediate area. I do know it is well situated to most of the major attractions.

The Roosevelt has been beautifully renovated, plushly appointed, so rich in history. New Orleans is an experience one cannot describe completely with words. See it, smell it, taste it, hear it. Feel it's power through it's culture of music and style!

This hotel has been completely renovated since cyclone Katrina and is beautifully furnished. The best thing about the hotel was probably its location. It provides easy access to the French quarter, Bourbon street and the street cars - the St Charles streetcar is only one block away. There is a Walgreens on the corner. We went to the IHOP across the road on Canal Street for a cheap and filling breakfast. There is a charge for wifi. We stayed in a suite which was very spacious and had a sink and small fridge and dining table in the sitting area. There was a separate bedroom. Had dinner at their restaurant Domenica one night, as the night before dined in Bourbon Street and saw a violent fight right outside the restaurant which didn't feel very safe with our 18 month old. Domenica had not bad food for reasonable prices - had a happy hour until 6 with half price pizzas and drinks. Would recommend the Red Fish Grill not far away on Bourbon Street for dinner, especially their double chocolate bread pudding! Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. One day we brought our 18 month old back for a nap and the maid got another maid to help her so that they would clean up our room as quickly as possible. Concierge always very helpful. Only complaint was that the shower was unpredictable. Sometimes you would have a nice hot shower and other times you couldn't get it beyond luke warm. Took a long time to get the bath water running hot as well.

The Roosevelt New Orleans is a Waldorf Astoria Hotel and one gets that feel upon entering the building. It is beautiful. While I found the service to be lacking a bit for a hotel of this kind of reputation, it was nonetheless a wonderful stay. The food was excellent. The rooms nicely appointed, but the highlight was the beautiful architechture inside. Even if you decide on staying (probably due to price, as it is not inexpensive) it is worth a visit just to "peak inside". The clock in foyer is amazing for instance. The location is excellent, just off Canal Street. The staff is friendly even if not efficient.

The Roosevelt should not be missed - even if only to hop in for a drink or bite to eat. The hotel is gorgeous and very conveniently located to the French Quarter and transportation/cable cars. Rooms are not huge - but what they lack in size they make up for in plush amenities. Rooms here are all about comfort - with cozy robes and slippers, turn-down service with chocolates, free shoe shines and next-day weather updates. The Ferragamo products are a nice touch but have a bit of a masculine scent so keep that in mind when packing ladies... Beds are very very comfortable. Walls weren't paper thin, but I could definitely hear my neighbors. Food at the hotel was fantastic - even the catered food we had for my business meetings was excellent. Service is what you would expect of a Waldorf property, exemplary. Would highly recommend this hotel when staying in New Orleans for work or pleasure!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Roosevelt New Orleans for only one night. I wish I could have stayed longer, but business trips can be like that. The hotel upgraded me to a king suite (thanks to Hilton Honors) which consisted of a good-sized living room, bar/hallway and big king bedroom. The bathroom had a small wall-mounted TV which was a nice touch. Everything in the room was very clean, nicely appointed, etc. They have a nice turn-down service. The lobby is beautiful. The coffee shop off the lobby is great. The catering staff at the two events I attended during my conference were great. All in all a great stay at a great hotel. My only complaint is not with the hotel, but the city. I'm over New Orleans. Walking out of the hotel within a block I was hit up by panhandlers and berated for not giving them money. The city feels very threatening. I only go when I have to, but if I have to go back I'll stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms face one another between the two towers. Ask for a room with an outside view. Otherwise...

We heard about the $150 million dollar renovation at this historic hotel formerly called "the fairmont"; but originally The Roosevelt; the famous hang-out of Huey P. Long, the colorful former Governer of Louisiana......the hotel is 1/2 block off Canal and 2 blocks from Bourbon Street; walking distance to the Riverwalk, Aquarium, Harrah's, etc.

From the moment you arrive, you know you're in "Naw'lins"....the "smallest" room is really small; go up to the 2 queens room at a minimum; it's the size of normal hotel room and is beautifully decorated. we had a wonderful view of canal street with huge windows. robes & slippers are provided for extra comfort. The hotel is just beautifully renovated. There's a really nice coffee & sweet shop in the lobby; in the morning they have danish and other breakfast yummies; at night they have luxurious desserts.

We ate at Domenica, John Besh's Italian restaurant.....have the buckwheat pasta with italian sausage; absolutely one of the best italian dishes EVER.....also at the Sazerac inside the hotel....definitely 5-star; the good was beyond anything i've had before. it is quite expensive; but they have a "pre fixe" menu of $30 for 3 courses. it was worth every penny and we ate every morsel. they allowed me to substitute a salad for the appetizer offering; which was not on the "pre fixe" menu. the service was outstanding.

Our entire experience at The Roosevelt was beyond anything I would expect. It is quite expensive; however, for a "splurge" definitely would recommend The Roosevelt in NEW ORLEANS.

Pets allowed for a fee.

Room Tip: get the double queen.....rather than the single queen....the room is quite a big larger.
