“the most fabulous place to stay in NOLA”
Reviewed June 30, 2010

This was our second year staying with Rob and Kevin - the loveliest hosts and owners of B&W Courtyards. They have a treasure in the Marigny neighborhood- great location, wonderful rooms, a nice and quiet place to retreat to after a hot day roaming around in New Orleans. They have a beautiful courtyard garden, it is very safe and secure with ample parking. For breakfast, they serve mouthwatering granola, fruit and pastries fit for a King and Queen. Their location is superb because you are actually living in a neighborhood- gives you a real feel of what it is like to live there. Rob is filled with information about NOLA and is more than happy to tell you what's great and what's not! They are also almost directly across the street from New Orleans Bakery and Cake Cafe- the best place for a second breakfast or lunch or afternoon cupcake - we prefer to eat our way through this city.

My wife and I stayed at the B&W Courtyards for our 10th wedding anniversary after it was highly recommended to us by friends who had stayed there several times before. We were thrilled with our vacation, and our stay at the B&W Courtyards lived up to and exceeded the high expectations that we brought with us.

The owners of this beautiful Bed & Breakfast were just as wonderful as the accommodations! The gourmet-quality home-made breakfasts that they prepared and the stories that they shared helped to make breakfast a highlight of our stay.

The B&W Courtyards was a quick (and safe) walk to Frenchmen's Street, the French Market, the Riverwalk, and Bourbon Street. For any excursions that we didn't want to walk to, the average wait for a cab was less than 2 minutes, or we could drive our own car and return to free/ample parking with ease.

Our room was so comfortable and cozy, and the decor was incredible. We were even welcomed with a bottle of champagne on ice to commemorate our anniversary!

The wife and I are already looking forward to coming back time and again so we can stay in each of their uniquely designed rooms.

We have stayed at the B and W courtyards in New Orleans for 10 years now. In our opinion it is the only place to stay in New Orleans. The b and b is perfect to walk every where, has on the street FREE parking, each room is amazing, and the owners (Rob and Kevin), who we adore, offer great suggestions for places to see and eat, and don't forget about the breakfast, simply amazing. We will return again very soon. You must stay here!

Stayed almost 2 weeks for the second year in a row because we love-love-love B&W. Not only is it convenient to the Quarter & Frenchman St., but we ride bikes to Jazz Fest from there. Piece of cake! The hot tub is perfect after a long day beating the streets, and of course the breakfast is a delicious AND supremely entertaining way to start the day. Rob & Kevin are full of first-rate tips & suggestions on everything New Orleans, plus they pamper you with anything you may need while there. Can't say enough good things about it! We stay in the Suite in the old slave quarters, and have had family join us on the pull-out sofa. Plenty of room, and the kitchen comes in handy. We've also brought friends down from New York to stay at B&W while we were there, and everyone leaves enchanted with this place. Can't WAIT for next year!!

I give B&W Courtyards 5 stars but there are several caveats careful Tripsters might want to consider.

Since I get to write the review, my opinion gets top billing, but if my wife had written it the score would be lower. She is more sensitive to heat than I and arriving in 90 degree heat and 90% humidity, she did not like waiting around outside in the sun for half an hour until we were let in. The outer door is locked, quite appropriately, but Rob and Kevin do not live on-site, and you do not get a key, of course, until you check in. We rang the bell as instructed in the welcoming e-mail, but there was no answer. I called the number on the cell phone listed (I actually had to call my secretary in Los Angeles to get that) but it was not a working number. Then my secretary, in another call, gave me the 800 number and Rob said he was on his way—he thought we’d be in later than we were, and they had changed the local number. Afterwards, Rob said he’d add the phone number to the welcoming e-mail. I must say that I would have appreciated an apology for the anxiety and discomfort, and at least the offer of a drink of cool water.

We learned the next day that another current guest had had a similar problem with entry on her arrival.

That said, Rob and Kevin otherwise mostly lived up to the enthusiastic reviews on this site. Breakfasts by Kevin were simple fare, but lovely, served while Rob held court, flamboyant and sparkling as the spectacular jewelry he creates and wears. They are foodies, and have terrific recommendations for dining. (That reminds me, when he was giving the—very helpful—orientation to making the most of your trip to New Orleans lecture, Rob repeatedly said, with apparent good humor but firmly: Don’t interrupt!).

We stayed in a small separate structure behind the main house, called the Barbados Suite. It consists of a sitting room with kitchen area downstairs, with a king bedroom and toilet/showerstall room (warning to the obese: very small and might be hard to maneuver in) upstairs. The second major spousal caveat is that the king bed is up against the wall, head and left side; if 2 people occupy the bed, one will have to crawl over the other to get in and out. The mattress was beginning to get saggy, but Rob, when informed of that, was clear it would be replaced. Otherwise, the suite was quite comfortable for two people (and I had 4 others over one evening for a meeting), and meticulously clean.

The air conditioning was effective, controllable, and completely quiet!

Staying in a quiet place, just 20 minutes walk to the center of the French Quarter was fabulous. It was wonderful to have our “home” suite to come back to in peace after our excursions. And since no one was coming in the next day, we were allowed to remain on our last day until we left for the airport at 4:30 pm. Very accommodating!

Rob and Kevin have decorated the little courtyard in which stand the three small structures of the diminutive property into a beautiful water garden with little ponds with water lilies and hanging bromiliads on the wall. (see pictures already posted on TripAdvisor.com). The aesthetic is funky, not pristine, a joy to me and my wife.

There was a sign just in from the entry. I later saw one like it in a store near-by. It may be some New Orleans in-joke, but it does give one pause on sweaty arrival at a 5-star B&B. Over two alligators is the inscription: “Be Nice or Leave. (Dr. Bob)”

We have stayed with Kevin and Rob for over 15 years and each stay just gets better and better. This was our first stay since Katrina and we were not sure what to expect from our hosts or the city. NO WORRIES! As usual, these two are fabulous hosts and understand how to take care of their guests. Their recommendations on what to do and where to go were spot on. I would NEVER consider staying anywhere else and can't wait for the next time I can get back to the best B&B ever!

Rob and Kevin were delightful hosts, helpful and so much fun. The b&w is located within walking distance of great restaurants, outstanding music in a great little neighborhood. Their dining room is gorgeous and breakfast was a visual feast besides being delicious.
I will definately be back. BC in Asheville, NC
